NAIDOC Week

This week, Great Southern Grammar has celebrated NAIDOC Week.

This year's theme is Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.

Artist, Deborah Beylea’s work ‘Urapun Muy’ or ‘One fire’ was chosen as the 2024 National NAIDOC Week poster.

Reflecting on her work, Deborah says:

‘Culture is the fire that gives us knowledge, wisdom and purpose.

It is our responsibility to maintain, practice, and pass on our fire to our future generations.’

The fire represents the enduring strength of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite immense challenges, trauma and harm.

The fire is symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At GSG, we honour this flame, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our community.

Through our collective efforts we can shape a positive culture where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities are celebrated.

Today, we make a pledge to walk together in love and respect for a brighter and more reconciled future.

We embrace the fire of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Term Three Updates

This week, we have welcomed nine new students and their families to the school.

Last Friday, the School Council, Executive and Senior Leaders participated in a strategic planning day as we prepare to shape the school's next strategic plan for 2025.

A great deal of work was completed on the day to unpack the essence of GSG, identify future opportunities and risks, and shape new strategic priorities that will have a transformative impact for students.

As we continue this journey in 2024, I would like to invite interested parents to come to a coffee morning to discuss celebrations, areas for improvement, and ideas for the future.

When: Tuesday 13 August or Tuesday 19 September

Time: 10.00am to 11.30am

In the coming week, I will announce the Principal's Challenge #3. I am working with our Senior students and will need the support of the whole community. Watch this space.
