STEM: Coding games with Scratch

Last term during STEM, our students built a foundational understanding of coding by learning to use the programming language Scratch.

Scratch lets students visualise the process of coding through the use of colourful drag and drop blocks. Senior students coded on their Chromebooks, whereas junior students used Scratch Junior on their iPads. The students learnt many things, including how to animate characters and add sound effects to their creations.

This term, the students will be applying their knowledge of coding to make computer games. The senior students started off the term with a bang by programming the classic game Pong. Many students completed their games and extended them by adding scores, music, and even a multiplayer mode to play with a friend.

Here are some photographs of the Year 3/4 students focussed intently on their games coding.

We cannot wait to see what we code next.
