Answering the call: My Journey to Emmaus and a new path in Counseling

I am stoked to introduce myself to the Emmaus community. I started my counselling role at Emmaus midway through term 1 this year. My wife Mel, daughters Madison (10) and Chloe (8), and son Brodie (6) support me at home, and they bring so much joy and love into my life.

Reflecting on the road to Emmaus, I am reminded of the power of faith, trust, and following God's calling. I worked as a carpenter for many years, believing that carpentry would be my lifelong occupation. I loved my trade, finding fulfilment in the work of my hands and the satisfaction of building and creating.

However, there came a point in my life where I felt a stirring in my heart, a call to something more. I began to sense that God was leading me in a different direction. It was a path that required me to step out of my comfort zone and into the unknown. Despite my initial reservations and doubts, I trusted God's plan for my life and took a leap of faith.

I then enrolled in a counselling degree. Throughout my studies, through prayer, reflection, and seeking guidance from trusted mentors, I discerned that God was calling me to use my gifts and talents in supporting and guiding students in their academic, wellbeing and personal journeys.

In Jeremiah 29:11, it is written, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This verse became a source of comfort and assurance as I navigated the uncertainties of changing vocations and stepping into a new role.

I believe that God has a unique plan for each of us, a plan that is filled with purpose and meaning. To discern God's voice and follow His calling, we must cultivate a spirit of prayer, openness, and willingness to listen. By seeking His guidance and remaining open to His leading, we can align our lives with His divine will and experience the abundant life He has in store for us.

I am grateful for the journey that has brought me to Emmaus and I am excited to see how God will continue to work in and through me as I serve the students and community of this College. I pray we all have the courage to trust in God's plan, follow His calling, and step boldly into the future He has prepared for us.
