National Simultaneous Storytime

This term, Brooklyn Park students participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). NSS is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage young children to read and enjoy books and teach them the value of literacy.

This year's book was Aura Parker’s Bowerbird Blues. The students read it at the same time as many other children from all over Australia.

Our Foundation students put some of their creations (inspired by Parker’s book) on display in the Library for our school to enjoy.

The Children's Book Council of Australia

Some of our F-2 classes have been reading books from The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) 2024 Notables and Shortlist. There were 636 books were entered and 36 shortlisted... We wonder which books will win this year?

Check out the link below to see which books are eligible to win.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to:

  • Encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading
  • Improve literacy levels.

This annual Challenge requires students to read 12 books by early September, ending Week 7, Term 3.

Students have been making excellent progress this term. As each student completes the challenge, they colour a star and stick it on our wall. It's wonderful to see so many stars on display already!

Well done to students who've finished the challenge. There's still some time left until the competition ends, so we encourage everyone to keep reading. School holidays are the perfect time to read!

Returning and Borrowing

Students are encouraged to return their library books and borrow new ones before the end of the term. I hope there will be many reading opportunities for everyone over the 2-week break!
