Around the Grounds - Senior School

Year 7

On 31 January, 100 nervous and excited Year 7 students entered the gates of Huntingtower to start their journey in the Senior School. They were warmly welcomed by the Huntingtower family at the Commencement Assembly.  From the moment they walked through the doors of the MYC building, their energy and enthusiasm was evident.

They had a week of transition which included fun-filled introductory and informative activities. They had a myriad of activities including, swimming, get-to-know-you and team building activities, some testing and a lot of fun games.

Some of their highlights were making new friends, meeting Abby and Oakleigh, and meeting students from other year levels. This group of Year 7s have been amazing at embracing everything offered and I am sure they are going to be an awesome cohort!

Chess

Chess Club is off to a rollicking start this year with very keen interest from our new Year 7’s. To accommodate the increased interest in chess, we will now be running Chess Club every day during lunch in MYC13 with specialist coaching during P6 on Thursdays. This term our specialist coaching will be conducted free of charge by two of our top players, Jackie L and Rey D, also in MYC13. ‘Check’ you there ‘mate’.

House Swimming Training

House training has kicked off the year with some of the biggest sessions seen at HSAC.  Monday morning Mather and Rayner saw around 95 turning up at 7am to swim, whilst Wednesday Bruce and Warrell had a massive 144 attending.  Many laps covered, new times set and diving practise on the cards before breakfast for the hungry swimmers.  Looking forward to a close competition at the house carnival in less than 2 weeks!   Good luck to all.

HSAC Manager

Focus on Foods

It has been a wonderful start to the year as we have welcomed our Food Studies students back to school. The kitchen has been a hive of activity with Year 8s cooking Chocolate Chip Muffins, Year 9s whipping up a batch of Oat Cookies, Year 10s making a variety of salads and then designing their own bite sized biscuits, and finally Unit 3 preparing a Vegetable Frittata!  Plus there has been much excitement as Year 7 embark on their Food Studies adventures making a batch of Blueberry Muffins.

Make sure you check out HT Connect for the recipes. Please visit us in the kitchen to share with us pictures of your cooking endeavours at home.
