Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 1

WEEK 4 LEARNING

🌈 Over the next few weeks, we will be familiarising ourselves with the NAPLAN format in Reading, Writing and Maths.

📚 LITERACY

Reading

Students will be introduced to the comprehension strategy of 'Self Monitoring' through the use of 'Think Marks'. We will annotate short texts using self monitoring symbols.

What you can do at home:

We encourage every child to read for a minimum of four nights a week. It would be a great idea to ask your child about the wonderings they had when reading.

Writing

This week in Writing we are exploring the structure of fiction narratives. Students will develop their own characters, settings and plot.

What you can do at home:

Discuss the beginning middle and and of your favourite books and movies. You could discuss the conflict and resolution too.

Spelling

We will be separating words into syllables, ensuring that there is a vowel sound in every syllable, when attempting to spell complex words.

What you can do at home:

Choose some interesting words to practice this spelling strategy.

🎲 NUMERACY

We will continue to explore Place Value through games and small group activities, sharing strategies and celebrating success.

What you can do at home:

Ask you child about the games they have been playing in class and get them to teach and play with your family.
