Campus Principals' Bulletin

Campus Principal | JUNIOR SCHOOL

Mr John Simon

Our Year 7 and 8 students have made a focused and enthusiastic start to 2024. The Year 7 Level Up program, held on Tuesday 30 January, allowed students to settling into the routines of high school, learn about the opportunities at Frankston High School, and to get to know their peers and teachers. Our Year 8 students returned on Wednesday 31 January and are on track to consolidate and maintain the positive behaviours they demonstrated last year. In less than two weeks 1,235 house points have been awarded to Junior School students – what a start!

There are some big items coming up in the Junior School calendar including:

  • Year 8 Survivor Challenge Day Friday 23 February An exciting program for all Year 8 students, who will be participating in a range of activities on campus that focus on teamwork, communication, and resilience. These activities will be provided by an external provider (PROACTIVITY).
  • Year 7 Camp Monday 26 February to Wednesday 28 February (Camp 1) and Wednesday 28 February to Friday 1 March (Camp 2) An important and memorable part of the Year 7 program. This year, we are heading to Lord Somers Camp for three days of fun activities near the beach!
  • Year 7 Parent Meet and Greet Tuesday 5 March Save the date! More information to follow.

Campus Principal | MIDDLE SCHOOL

Ms Leah Hannas

Welcome back to the 2024 school year! We hope you've had a fantastic break and are ready for a great year ahead in our centenary year.

It has been a fantastic start to the year having our middle school students in the new double story building. We have been absolutely blown away by how well everyone has been settling back into the school routine. It's been fantastic seeing your enthusiasm for learning and your positive attitude towards getting back into the groove of things.

As we kick off the new year, we want to remind you of our high expectations here at Frankston High School. That means always showing our school values (respect, responsibility, persistence, integrity, empathy and optimism) in accordance with our behaviour expectations poster, wearing the school uniform with pride, showing up to class on time and keeping those mobile phones in lockers during school hours.

Keep up the great work, stay focused, and don't hesitate to reach out to the middle school coordinators or I if you need any support throughout the year.

Campus Principal | SENIOR SCHOOL

Ms Tiffany Greenhill

The 2024 Senior School Team welcome back our Year 11 and 12 VCE and VCE Vocational Major students, parents/carers and staff. For the Year 11 students and families who have transitioned across from the 7-10 Campus and any new member to our community, I would like to introduce myself as the Campus Principal who oversees Year 11 and 12. I feel incredibly grateful to work at Frankston High School and lead a phenomenal group of young people who are setting themselves up to achieve their pathway aspirations. My portfolio will also include overseeing Wellbeing and Inclusion and I’m lucky enough to teach a Year 12 Psychology class and mentor a group of Year 12 students in my Year 12 Voice class.

The Class of 2024 and the new Year 11 cohort are to be congratulated on their positive start to the school year. Day one for our VCE and VCE VM students looked a little different this year. The Year 11 and 12 Senior School Teams created specialised programs for our students with a unique focus. The Year 12 students participated in an alternative program with a focus on connection - connecting with their peers and staff. The Year 11 students day focused on fostering team cohesion and navigating the transition to VCE. Students had to opportunity to meet their Senior School Team, key staff, organise timetables and lockers and participate in activities for the program focus.

Thank you to the Senior School Team, VCE and VCE VM teachers and the education support staff for their tremendous efforts and care in ensuring our wonderful students have a focused and productive staff to the school year.

I’d like to introduce the team who will work closely alongside you this year to support your Year 11 and/or Year 12 student. They are a fantastic group of professionals who care deeply about supporting and challenging our student to be the best versions of themselves. They are passionate about creating a caring culture of high expectations.

We understand families calendar book up quickly. Please see below for some important dates to note for Year 12:

  • Retreat 13-15 May
  • The compulsory Practice Examinations that are conducted during the September School Holidays for all students studying a Unit 3/4 (Year 12) subject
  • Valedictory Dinner on 20 November.

Campus Principal | INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Mr Cam Heyes

It has been a positive and productive start to 2024. I would particularly like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new staff. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic group of both graduate and experienced teachers joining us at Frankston High School this year. I would like to thank them for their involvement in two new staff induction days, as well as the effort and energy they have put into ensuring the successful commencement of their new 2024 classes.

It was fantastic to witness the high levels of engagement from all of our staff during our Professional Learning Day on Monday 29 January. This day provided a great opportunity to ensure clarity around our 2024 priorities. This day also gave our staff the opportunity to engage in a new whole school initiative that is being introduced in 2024.  ‘The First 10’ is a routine developed to fit our school’s context, combining evidence based, best practice strategies and techniques to ensure high levels of engagement in the first 10 minutes of class. Staff will participate in professional learning across Term 1 to ensure this initiative continues to achieve the high levels of engagement we have already witnessed this year.

During Week 1, we also welcomed 14 new International Students to Frankston High School. These students and some of their parents/carers took part in an Orientation Program that involved meeting their teachers, learning about our school, and choosing their elective subjects, followed by a tour of our school. These students then travelled to Mornington where they purchased their new Frankston High School uniforms. A huge thank you to Ms Sacha Fisher (Learning Specialist-Inclusion and EAL Team Leader), Ms Kelly Lin and Mrs Sharon Koning for all their hard work in preparing for and running this orientation day. An additional thank you to Mrs Koning for all her work over the holiday period, ensuring our homestay students and families were supported as well as several airport pickups for our new students. Thank you to Mr Adam Carson for helping out with bus driving duties on the day and to Mei Mei for all her work in the International Student Program. Thank you to our amazing ELC teachers, Ms Caitlin Halliwell, Mr Daniel Myers, Ms Libby Toovey and Mr Heath Booth who have done such an outstanding job already of supporting our new international students through their first two weeks of classes.

We are also excited to introduce Academic Catch-up Club (ACC) in 2024. ACC at Frankston High School is readily accessible to all students in Years 7-10 seeking academic support. This club is designed to aid students who may encounter challenges in completing their Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) or other essential coursework during regular classes. It also provides a safe and supportive environment for any Year 7-10 student wanting to complete work or receive academic assistance. It serves as a crucial resource for academic reinforcement. These sessions take place every Tuesday from 3.30pm-4.30pm in the JRC. ACC will be supervised by Frankston High School staff members.

I am really looking forward to continuing to work with our school community to ensure the best possible outcomes for our Frankston High School students in 2024.
