Genius Hour

Report by Lillian, Charlotte, Jaz, Medina and Sienna, Year 4F

Hi! We are going to tell you about Genius hour. This term 4F were introduced to Genius Hour on Friday afternoons where we were tasked to create a project based on an interest

or passion. We had eight weeks to complete this project. We could work in a group or individually, once we had an idea we talked to teacher Ben about it, who then approved it and we could start planning.

On Monday we presented our completed projects to the class and we were amazed at what students created. Some students made Youtube tutorial videos on football and how to make slime, others created complicated builds in Minecraft like building a life size replica of 1000 Sunny ship from One Piece.

Another group of students wrote and performed an original song. One student, Nishan even designed, made (3D printed) and test fired a rocket.

We loved sharing our passions and interests with the class and were amazed at what everyone created.

Sleeping Beauty

These past few terms the Year 4 cohort have dedicated many plays and lunches to perfect a modern rendition of Sleeping Beauty. Many students have contributed to the play, Mira was the front stage director,  Ellie was the backstage director and Maya was the student who initiated the project. I would also like to say thank you to teacher Georgina Aquilina. Now it’s time for a some words from our backstage director.

Reflection by Ellie

Working on backstage was a learning experience. Making the props and planning the makeup, costumes and hair was very stressful when we had deadline but we did it in the end. On the day some of the props got broken and wow, the backstage handled it well. We had to make do with the limited materials that we had and everything turned out great.

Reflection by Mira

Working with all the actors and directors has been sublime. Who knew that North Melbourne had so much talent? Everything from cutting the scripts to blocking out positions was so much fun. And the bonus was I got to it with all my friends. I think it’s mandatory to  mention the starring roles who were Karan and Audrey.

Reflection by Maya

Hello. I am Maya and I created this play. Have you ever felt like you were so connected to something that you would never let go. That was how it felt. I loved working with everyone. Everyone put their heart and soul into this and to be honest there really aren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe how amazing this experience was.
