Welcome to another exciting school year at Leighland Christian School. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer filled with precious moments and new adventures.

The beginning of a new school year is always filled with a sense of anticipation and eagerness. It's a time when students, parents, and teachers alike can come together with a shared commitment to learning, growth, and community.

On Wednesday 21 February at 5.00pm, families are welcome to join with us for our annual Welcome Back Barbeque at the Ulverstone Campus. This is a great opportunity to meet our staff and other families in our school community.

On the same day, we are hosting our SIMON information sessions for parents and guardians. SIMON is an online learning management system for teachers, students, and parents to be able to view assessment tasks with due dates and feedback, as well as access formal school reports. SIMON also has information about the student’s timetable, daily messages, and the school calendar. SIMON information sessions will be held at 3.15pm and 6.00pm. Please consider joining us for one of the sessions before or after the barbeque on Wednesday 21 February.

It is my hope this year that students and teachers will experience joyful learning. Research consistently demonstrates that when students experience joy in the learning process, it enhances their overall well-being and academic performance. As a Christian school, we believe that joy is a gift from God, and fostering a positive and joyful environment aligns with our values. Joy is referred to in the Bible over 300 times. Paul, in the book of Thessalonians, reminds us to always be joyful, never stop praying and be thankful in all circumstances.

Regardless of our circumstances we are encouraged to approach situations with joy. Joyful learning is about more than just having fun in the classroom, although that certainly plays a part. It's about approaching education with a sense of wonder, curiosity, and enthusiasm. When students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and engage in creative activities, it sparks their imagination and nurtures a sense of curiosity. This sense of playfulness is a catalyst for innovation, helping students of all ages develop problem-solving skills and resilience to face challenges with creativity. When students are joyful in their learning, they are more engaged, more motivated, and more likely to retain what they have learned.

At Leighland Christian School, we aim to provide Christ centred education that nurtures, inspires, and equips students to connect learning to life. When students enjoy the learning process, they are more likely to collaborate, communicate, and form meaningful connections. Joyful and playful learning creates a sense of community within our school through these meaningful connections.

As we journey through this school year, please consider attending our many celebrations of learning, parent information sessions, sports events and community activities. Together, as a Christian community, we can create an atmosphere where students not only thrive academically but also grow in faith, character, and joy.

May God bless each student, teacher, and family as we embark on this exciting journey through 2024 together!
