SCHOOL OF POSSIBILITIES

We would like to welcome back all our students and families to the School of Possibilities for the 2024 school year. A special welcome to our Year 10 students who join us this year and to all of our new students who have started in Years 10, 11, 12.

We would like to welcome our new learning mentors Rebecca Lowe, Justin Wilhelm, Kasey Senior, Dion Prince and soon to arrive Naomi O’Connor.

Each new school year brings with it excitement, a feeling of renewal and new opportunities and challenges for our students.

Each day we get the opportunity to reset and start afresh every day.  Let’s make good choices and not make excuses.

All students have settled in well and have started their classes in a positive fashion.  They are looking very smart in their academic uniform and have been very flexible and understanding as we navigate new learning spaces and classes.

This week our year 12 VM students completed a training day on campus with educlick.  They completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and their Food Handlers Certificate.  They were taught about the levels of alcohol in different drinks and what a standard drink is.  They looked at the effects of intoxication and were given activities to complete wearing beer goggles which always gives everyone a laugh. It was fun to  see students trying to read a license and throw and catch a ball with goggles on.  Students made rum balls in the afternoon for the practical activity for the Food Handlers Certificate.

Later this year students will also complete their White Card training, First Aid Training and will complete a Financial Literacy Certificate.  It will be great that our young people can graduate with all these certificates in addition to their Year 12 certificate and VET certificates.

Some reminders:

There is an expectation that all students have an academic uniform including blazers.  Blazers can be put on lay by and paid off.  We may be able to source a few secondhand blazers.  Wearing of uniform is as follows;

Lockers

All students must have a lock on their lockers and this lock should be locked at all times.  This is essential for our Year 11 and Year 12 students’ lockers that are accessible from the outside.  There have been incidents in the past where macbooks and learning materials and books have been stolen out of unlocked lockers overnight and on the weekends.  It is a requirement of the signed ICT agreement that students have devices stored in locked lockers.

Year 11 & 12 students who do not have a lock on their locker by the end of the day Monday, will be moved inside to a locker indoors.

Booklist items

Students and families are asked to ensure they have purchased all of the learning materials listed on the SOP booklist. This includes purchase of the Jacaranda digital library for all Yr 10 and VCE students, as well as paying for Edrolo subscriptions for VCE Psychology and VCE General Maths.

Year 12 Retreat

Year 12 students will attend Retreat from Wednesday - Friday, February 14-16. Parents are reminded of very important information sent home via email. We are looking forward to the opportunity to gather as a community, to build connections and take some time to focus on self, prior to the busyness of Year 12.

VM Training Day

VCE Unit 1&2 Industry and Enterprise class

The Industry and Enterprise students have started Term 1 with enthusiasm and great effort! Prior to going out in the workplace, the students must complete two online modules - 1. Safe at work general module and 2. Related industry module for their chosen workplace industry.

After the students have worked through each module, they must pass a multiple choice test. The students are pleased to have successfully completed both modules.

Kawal Preet Kaur 9 (Yr. 10) said ...."This subject has been good and I really enjoy learning about it and doing the activities. I am looking forward to going on work experience."

Milinderpreet Aulakh (Yr. 10) said ..."WOW i love this class, very good work and good environment, 9/10."

Sukhreet Hayer (Yr. 10) said ... "I have learned a lot about work and career pathways, I am looking forward to the structured workplace learning and getting to know more people."

Talia Rosegas (Yr. 10) said ... In Industry and Enterprise we have learned so much, in class we have done two modules. We did the general one and I did the hairdressing one. We are also doing activities around safe work. So far  I have really enjoyed Industry and Enterprise.

Enjoying a great start to the day to celebrate a new start to the year ...

Our inaugural school leaders were warmly invited to a delicious breakfast to meet and mingle with the St Anne's College staff leadership team on Monday, February 5.

We are excited to watch this inspiring group of leaders in action this year.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

We are now one week into our introductory program. There is a clear expectation that all students returning to St Anne’s College in 2024 will attend the introductory program for either Year 11 or Year 12 next year.  This program enables students to see if their subject choices and program for the year are suitable for them. Students gain a deeper understanding of subjects and what is required of them and whether they believe they can succeed and if the subject is right for them. It is anticipated that by the start of the 2024 school year, no Year 11 or Year 12 student will need to change their subjects or programs. This allows for all students to seamlessly transition into the new school year without disruption to their learning program.  Parent support with this program is greatly appreciated so that our students can set themselves up for success in the 2024 school year.  Should you have any questions or concerns about any aspects of this program, please feel free to contact one of the School Leaders.

ACADEMIC UNIFORMS - 2024

Students in year 11 & year 12 are to wear academic uniforms including blazers (terms 2 & 3) and correct footwear.  For PE classes and VET Sport & Recreation classes students are permitted to wear sports uniform for practical classes only.  The practical classes will be for double lessons for PE and one full day for VET Sport & Recreation.  Students are required to ensure they purchase items of academic uniform over the school holidays so they are in the correct uniform at the start of the school year.  Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

The VCAA  is introducing the Student Achievement Profile - please click on the link for more information. St Anne's College will work with the VCAA through the VASS system to ensure students eligible for a Student Achievement Profile will have access when this becomes available.

Reminders about expectations

Pastoral Group attendance

Students should arrive at school in time to attend pastoral group each morning commencing at 8.55am.  This is an important part of the day and a time for prayer and reflection.  Teachers are able to follow-up with students and check in on how they are doing. Daily messages are delivered to students at this time.  It is vital that the school completes accurate records for attendance and the roll is marked during this session.

Uniform

It is expected that students wear the correct academic uniform to school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  On Tuesday and Thursday students are permitted to wear their PE uniform, again this should be the full correct uniform including the St Anne’s tracksuit pants or shorts.  Year 10 students completing the sports coaching elective are permitted to wear their PE uniform on Thursday in addition to the above.

Use of air pods and mobile phones

Students are not permitted to use air pods or mobile phones while at school.  These items are to be left in students lockers during the school day.  Parents are asked not to ring their child’s mobile phone while they are at school or expect them to receive text messages.  If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please contact the front office who will deliver the message on your behalf.

Your support on these matters is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Sarah Baglin & Meredith Lia (SOP Leaders)

VCE Exams Navigator 2023

The VCE Exams Navigator 2023 should be read by all students presenting for 2023 VCE external assessments. It contains important information about what you need to know for VCE external assessments. A hard copy was distributed to all students present in class on Friday, July 21 by the subject teachers of: VCE Unit 3&4 Psychology, Business Management, and Vet Engineering Studies. If a student was away, please see the VCE Coordinator for a hard copy. We advise students to retain the VCE Exams Navigator 2023 until they obtain their VCE results.

If you have any queries, please contact Chris Segrave, VCE Co-ordinator.
