Composting at BNWPS

Nino O'Sullivan

This year, by putting food scraps in our compost buckets instead of the landfill we saved 20,520kg of methane gasses from going into the atmosphere. We figured this out by timing the average amount of compost per bucket by the number of classes in the school. That was 54kg. Then we timed that by the days in a school week, which was 270kg of methane saved per week. Then we timed that by the 40 which is the number of weeks in a school year. That’s how we figured out how much methane gasses we saved from going into the atmosphere.

That is why it’s good to compost. The more we compost, the less global warming which means less animals dying.
