New beginnings and exciting developments

Welcome to the new year with new changes to Emmaus Christian College’s Year 7 -12s.

It is an exciting year in the Secondary School as we make improvements to our Pastoral Care Programs and invest in students’ wellbeing whilst we grow as a school.

This year the new Secondary structure will see a number of changes with our regular rhythm of parent events and celebrations. The College has invested in a more significant level of pastoral support for our students in the integrated Secondary School structure. We have created three year level groups that are part of the one Secondary School. The new structure is managed by a Director and two Pastoral Coordinators, one per year level as we seek to become more unified in our procedures and philosophy of Christ-centred care and education at Emmaus.

Directors and Pastoral Coordinators

By this point in time I trust you are aware of the new Directors and the Pastoral Coordinators. As a reminder of who they are please read below:

  • Director of Year 7 and 8: Mrs Deb Ellis; Pastoral Coordinator Year 7: Mrs Lucia Mangos; and Pastoral Coordinator Year 8: Mr Saxon Wilson.
  • Director of Year 9 and 10: Mr Justin Bailey; Pastoral and Rite Journey Coordinator Year 9: Mr Nigel Eaton; and Pastoral Coordinator of Year 10: Ms Georgina Lampard.
  • Director of Year 11 and 12: Mr Michael Worley; Pastoral Coordinator Year 11: Mr Daryl Porter; and Pastoral Coordinator of Year 12: Mrs Alli Storey.

It is an exciting change and we hope you have noted the dates of the Parent Evenings in your calendars which is an opportunity to catch up with the staff who are in your students’ Year Level Group. I have the privilege of being the Secondary Principal for the South Plympton Campus.

There are three new staff in the Secondary School, who we welcome and pray that they already feel part of our team. I believe that they have so much to offer our school community. They are Mr Andrew Buchiw (Design and Tech and STEM), Mr Ian Wenas (Maths and Physics) and Mr Vito Silvestri (Science).

Uniforms

Finally, uniform is an important part of our culture and I would ask that parents prepare their children for 2024 with the correct uniform. In particular:

  • Shoes are to be black leather lace up school shoes
  • Correct socks for the uniform being worn (white for shorts and dresses, and black for trousers)
  • Correct jewellery (one pair of discrete earrings for girls only and no nose rings; other as per the policy)
  • HPE uniform worn only on the days the HPE students have a practical lesson and/or trials
  • Families are aware of the Hot Weather policy for students’ uniform requirements
  • Finally, hair is appropriate and long hair is worn up for both boys and girls and of a natural colour.

It is important for the respect for our culture and identity as a school that students adhere fully and parents support the uniform policy of the school. The full policy is on our website, see here.

For ongoing uniform concerns where students are not meeting the College’s expectations, with notice, they will receive new items from the uniform shop which will be charged to families.

It is an exciting year with the renovations and additional rooms being built for the increasing number of students who wish to attend our College. I pray that we can plan our education programs and events with confidence and pray that God is in control of the plans He has for our future.
