Junior School, South Plympton

Liz Hinrichsen, Head of Junior School South Plympton

Welcome to 2024!

I hope you all had a fantastic Summer break filled with fun and relaxation. It is so exciting to see the new Foundation students arriving this week, keen to begin their school journey, and our returning students eager to see friends and engage in new learning.

We all look forward to another exciting year of learning and personal growth. It is such a blessing to be a part of the Emmaus family and I pray that you will sense this too throughout 2024.

"For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever,  and his faithfulness continues to each generation." Psalm 100: 5 (NLT)

The teachers have been busy preparing for this year, making sure everything is in place to provide your children with the best possible learning experiences. It is interesting to observe that their enthusiasm and energy actually comes with the arrival of the students! This week there has been a real buzz around the classrooms and the yard.

At Emmaus, we know that education is more than just academics, but also about encouraging the students' personal faith, fostering personal growth and character development. We are committed to instilling values such as respect, kindness, and responsibility in our students, helping them become well-rounded individuals. We will be continuing to focus on further developing the students’ friendship skills and empowering them to be independent problem-solvers.

Parental involvement in the school community is crucial to your child's success. We encourage you to stay connected with us through regular communication; reading the newsletter, parent-teacher interviews, and volunteering opportunities. Together, we can create a strong partnership to support your child's educational journey.

We trust that you can attend our Parent Information Night on Wednesday night of Week 1. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher and familiarise yourself with their expectations. It is also a chance to meet or reconnect with other parents in your child’s class.

Swimming in Week 2 is also a good time to be involved either as a volunteer or as an observer. The children really love to see a parent at the pool to encourage them as they learn to swim. Over summer we have become very aware of the dangers that the ocean can present. Being confident as a swimmer is vital in this country.

Check the Junior School calendar so that you can prioritise opportunities to be involved.

Once again, welcome to the new school year! We are delighted to have you as part of our school community.
