Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Sonia Nista

Kitchen Specialist

This year students in Years 3-6 will participate in pleasurable food education via the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

Pleasurable food education inspires children and young people to understand and connect with fresh, delicious food through fun, hands-on learning.

This approach empowers children and young people to develop practical skills, an appreciation of seasonal produce, and a positive, confident, and healthy relationship with food — for life.

Students will engage in Kitchen/Garden classes on Mondays (Years 3-4) and Tuesdays (Years 5-6) where these sessions will require a minimum of 3-4 volunteers to go ahead. As always, its safety first and without a minimum of 3 classroom helpers, cooking will not take place.

You don’t need to be a celebrity MasterChef or expert gardener to get in on the fun, just a valid Working With Children Card (free for volunteers) and successful completion of the classroom helper training booklet. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and neighbours welcome! So, please consider joining us for a little therapeutic gardening, learn some new recipes and prepare and share some delicious food while making memories with your children! If you think you can help and are a new volunteer in Kitchen/garden, please fill in this formto join our email list and receive a copy of the Kitchen/Garden timetable.
