Welcome back!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all returning students and families, and also a special welcome to our new families across the school, including those in Prep.

It’s a pleasure to hear from students all the exciting adventures they had over the summer period. I was also excited to hear from our Preppies that their birthdays are coming up even though they are about 6 to 8 months away!

We’ve had a dream start to the year. This is really the first time all the children have been out in the play areas at the same time since before Covid. Even for us staff, it’s taking a little bit of getting used to but the kids are playing wonderfully together.

Ambulance insurance

A reminder that the school does not have ambulance insurance for students. This is a family based decision so we highly recommend that families get insurance to cover the use of an ambulance in case of an emergency.

Kiss and Go

Our Kiss and Go area runs along the curb-side in front of the school from 8.30am till 9 o’clock and then again in the afternoon from 2.30pm until 4pm. During these times cars may only stop to drop off children and parents/carers are not permitted to leave their vehicle, as there is only a two minute stopping time.

To ensure we have a good flow of traffic, please only stop in this zone if you intend to be there for two minutes or less.

If you need to come into the school, please make other parking arrangements.

A warning that Kingston Council regularly send parking inspectors and cars are frequently fined if you stay more than two minutes or you have left the car and come into the school. Please be aware that the school has no authority in relations to these fines and we cannot act on your behalf to have these fines cancelled.

Gym

Our new gym is in full swing and all year levels are experiencing PE lessons with Mr Beck in this space. There is still much work to be done to install numerous pieces of equipment and this will take some time.

Future Parent and Community Lounge

It is hoped by the end of term one that the foyer of the gym will be transformed into a dual cafe space and break out learning area for students. We will have a coffee machine installed and we hope that parents might think about using these facilities before school or after school. When our gym is hired out, community members will also be able to take advantage of these facilities.

School Council Elections

Later in February, I will be calling for expressions of interest for people to join vacated seats on school council. If you are interested and want to get some information before making a decision, please feel free to contact me. The election process will occur towards the end of February. In the event that we have more nominations for positions than what is available, a run-off election will occur.

Tea and Tissues

I would like to thank our Parent Association for the efforts in setting up tea and tissues for our new Prep parents. We had about 15 parents join us in the staffroom for some conversation and laughter. Without the support of Parent Association, a lot of community events that focus on parents, would struggle to go ahead?

Oval and Goal Posts

Children currently have access to about 60% of the oval. We have cordoned a section as we have some very new grass growing and students are aware that if this grass does not grow we will have mud patches as we enter winter. Students this week have been excellent at staying on the part of the oval which is lush with grass. From the beginning of next week, we should also have AFL goal posts reinstalled on the far end of the oval.
