Australian Ballet Education Outreach Program

On Thursday 7th and Friday 8th of November, we were fortunate to have dance instructors from the Australian Ballet come out to explore storytelling through a First Nations lens with our students.

Students spent 100mins working on their understanding of movement and interpretation, creating their own stories through movement and music. This culminated in a performance by the instructors titled From the Ghadu, which centres on the symbiotic relationship between the First Nations peoples of the Bidjigal and Dharrawal Country in New South Wales and the whales migrating along the coastline.

We saw a high level of participation, collaboration and respect throughout the workshops, and even though most students were trying something new, they all exited their sessions with smiles and a sense of accomplishment.

We hope to be able to run this program again next year with our new Year 7 cohort.
