Special Guest Afternoon Tea Celebration

We are excited to introduce our new Special Guest Afternoon Tea event, a weekly celebration to recognise and reward students who have consistently demonstrated respectful and positive behaviour.

Each Thursday, one student from each class will be invited to join this special event where there will be a special guest. Students will have the chance to share a piece of their work from the week, enjoy some snacks, and connect with staff and peers in a relaxed setting.

This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to foster a supportive and respectful school environment. By recognizing students who serve as positive role models, we aim to encourage all students to value kindness and respect.

 Respectful Relationships Education

Creating respectful relationships often begins within friendship groups. We continue to discuss with students what it means to be a good friend and how to cultivate healthy, respectful friendships. We encourage you to have these conversations at home as well.

Here are some strategies to support you as parents and carers to have conversations at home about respectful relationships:

Define a Healthy Friendship: Explain that a good friend is kind, listens, shares, and respects others.

Use Real-Life Examples: Highlight positive friendships in their lives or in stories, focusing on supportive behaviours.

Role-Playing Scenarios: Act out common situations, such as resolving conflicts or supporting a friend, and discuss outcomes.

Teach Conflict Resolution: Encourage respectful handling of disagreements using "I" statements, and emphasize the importance of apologies and forgiveness.

Encourage Inclusivity: Discuss the value of including others and being kind to everyone.

Monitor and Guide: Listen to your child's concerns about friendships and offer gentle advice.

Encourage Self-Reflection: Ask your child how they feel after spending time with friends to help them identify healthy versus unhealthy relationships.

By using these strategies, you can help your child build positive, healthy and respectful friendships that support their overall well-being.

Our last house event for 2024 will be the House Sing Off. The house sing-off will be a fantastic celebration of our students coming together to show teamwork.

School Leaders' Meeting with Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce

Recently, our eight school leaders visited the Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce to engage in a meaningful discussion about leadership with our Mayor and local councillors. The leaders took this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the council for their fantastic contributions to our community, including: the library, the water park and skate park and they acknowledged the beautiful presentation of our town.

Additionally, they expressed gratitude for the council’s support in funding our Chappy, which plays a role in the well-being of our students.

This meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between local leaders and the council, fostering a strong, supportive environment for our community’s growth and development.

We thank our Local Council for their time and dedication to our community.

Student Council - Crazy Hair and Sock Day

We are excited to share that the Student Council has successfully raised money for the Smith Family and were also able to purchase two table tennis tables and equipment as well as some dodgeballs for our school.

In our ongoing effort to support charities and enhance our school community, we will be hosting a Crazy Hair and Sock Day on Friday 15th November. Students are encouraged to come to school with their wildest hair and most colourful socks! Start planning for the fun!

News from Chappy Sonia

Christmas craft with Chappy has begun. Students are making a small Christmas Tree for each resident of Kaloma and some students will be visiting to gift the trees in person. Any donations of tinsel and a small star to go on top would be much appreciated and can be left at the office.

SPORT

Congratulations to our Aquathlon team who represented our school community with such pride at the Darling Downs School Sport Aquathlon trails in Dalby on the 26th of October.

Well done to Lucy, Parker, Sophia, Matilda, Audrey, Willow, Arlia, Zac, Marlon, Archer, Jock, Saxon, Lincoln, James, Tate, Harrison and Flynn on your efforts. Thankyou also to the other members of our training squad who helped prepare our students at training but were unable to participate on the day due to injury or age. Well done, Annabel, Ivy, George, Rocky, Zoe and Theo.

Thank you also to the very dedicated parents who made great efforts to get their children to training and to the event. It makes my job so much easier when I know I can rely on your support. I know you would all have been so proud of our team's efforts. Hard work always brings rewards.

Congratulations must also go to Audrey, Willow and James who have been selected in the Darling Downs School Sport Aquathlon team to contest the state championships at Hervey Bay in February next year.
