Year 10
This week students from Year 9 and 10 have been completing respective OLNA tests. I applaud students for the way in which they conducted themselves during this process. Parents will be notified as soon as results are available, which will be early in the new school year.
Students in Year 10 will sit examinations during Week 6, from November 11 until November 15. A timetable will be shared with students in the coming days. Irrespective of which pathway students will embark on in 2025, this year’s curriculum will lay an important foundation. Accordingly, students are encouraged to diligently apply themselves to their study timetable to ensure that they are prepared for these examinations.
A pertinent message from the College’s Vision is that “we strive to promote excellence”. Words that can be easily bandied about without due consideration, it is important to reflect on the sentiment of this phrase. What do these words mean in the Salvado community?
It would be erroneous to think that this statement from our Vision implies that every student should show excellence from obtaining a ‘straight A’ school report. With each child possessing unique God given talents, our community needs to be at peace with the fact that excellence is a relative concept, meaning that what excellence looks like for one person will be different to another.
What is the excellence that Salvado aims to promote? The College wants each child to achieve outcomes which are truly reflective of their ability. It is important to note that this goal is not solely linked to the realm of academia. Excellence shows itself in how we present and apply ourselves, in how members of our community, staff and parents included, treat each other, and in how they show examples for others to follow.
Our differences make us unique; our unity makes us strong.
