Mission & Faith Life
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend.
Thank you to our Year 9 student for writing wonderful messages of support for the Year 6’s on this special occasion.
May our students always stay strong in their faith and trust in God’s plan.
Socktober - Crazy Sock Day
Gracious God
Bless us with HEARTS that expand in generous response,
HEADS that are willing to explore greater justice,
HANDS that are giving to those in need.
Amen.
(Act, Love, Walk – Praying in the Josephite Spirit p.69)
Thank you to our students and staff for their gold coin donations to Catholic Mission and coming to school wearing their craziest pair of socks to raise awareness of young people living in poverty around the world and foster a sense of empathy and social responsibility to our global community. Together, we have raised $677.95.
On this day our primary students also participated in a special liturgy to pray for peace, justice and compassion in the world.
Primary Camino
Thank you to our primary students and staff who participated in our inaugural “The Salvado Way – Primary Camino”.
Rosendo Salvado often needed to travel between Subiaco and New Norcia, a journey of seven days by foot, to deliver supplies to support the mission he established in New Norcia. The journey was overwhelmingly challenging, however Salvado regularly turned to God for strength as he understood that “nothing worthwhile for God’s kingdom is accomplished in life without patience, perseverance, prudence and prayer.”
Today, many people walk Salvado’s same path, called the Camino Salvado, as a pilgrimage – a spiritual journey for reflection, prayer and reconnection to self, others, creation and God. Earlier this year, our Year 10 students had the opportunity to walk a section of the Camino Salvado, and as our College grows, our secondary students and staff will walk different parts of the Camino Salvado each year as part of their journey here at Salvado Catholic College. Click here to read more about the Camino Salvado.
For our Primary students, after the Socktober liturgy this week, they went on their very own smaller ‘Camino,’ or pilgrimage, around the College grounds. The students carried with them a prayer intention that they reflected upon during the journey and then placed before God at the completion of their Camino.
Thank you to all the staff and students for the prayerful and reverent way you participated in our first Primary Camino. Thank you also to the Year 9 students who supported the primary students for this special event.
Frayne House Day
On Friday, 25 October, we will celebrate our House Patron - Ursula Frayne. Frayne House focuses on compassion and mercy. On Friday, our students in Frayne House will celebrate a liturgy together in honour of Ursula Frayne and then share a sausage sizzle lunch. Students in other Houses will participate in House spirit building activities.
Originally from the Sisters of Mercy order in Dublin, Ireland, Ursula Frayne travelled to Australia in 1846 on the same boat as our College patron Rosendo Salvado. Ursula Frayne, among many Christ-centred activities, opened the first secondary school in Western Australia - now known as Mercedes College. The word ‘mercedes’ comes from the Spanish word for mercy.

All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day
In the Christian faith, November is traditionally a month of remembrance of the dead. Over time, these Christian observances merged with local cultural customs, giving rise to modern Halloween practices around this time of year. Halloween's Christian origins are tied to All Hallows' Eve, the night before All Saints' Day (November 1), a day to honour all saints, known and unknown. This is followed by All Souls' Day (November 2), dedicated to praying for the souls of the deceased. These celebrations commemorate the communion of saints and the faithful departed.
On All Saint’s Day, our students will participate in an All Saints' Day liturgy to offer prayers up for our saints, and for the souls of the deceased.

Thank You - Heart of Salvado
Thank you to our College families who have so generously donated Christmas parcels to the students at JPPCS in Mulan for our Hearts of Salvado Outreach Program. There will be some very happy students in the Kimberly this Christmas!
A huge thank you also to Grace Removals who have generously arranged to transport our gifts to the Kimberly for free, as a donation to our program through their own
support program

Pope Francis' Monthly Prayer Intention
In October, we pray for a shared mission.
We pray that the Church continue to sustain in all ways a *Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion and the mission shared among priests, religious and lay people.
*Synodal - Synod (or Assembly - of clergy and laity) is a call to pray, listen and discern together what the Holy Spirit is saying to or asking of the Church today.
