Physical Education
Over the past fortnight, students have been focusing on the following skills:
Prep – Striking
Grade 1/2 – Striking with different types of bats and tees
Grade 3/4 – Striking and Fielding, focusing on cricket and T-Ball style games
Grade 5/6 – Due to wet weather, we’ve swapped between units. Students worked in small groups to create safe and inclusive games for the class to play. We will place each of the games throughout the term.
Athletics
On Thursday the 24th of October, seven students represented Rolling Hills in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Track and Field Championships. Against very strong competition, Alexa, Annabel, Brodie, Cody, Hamish, Jackson and Ruby did an amazing job and achieved the following overall results:
Alexa – 9th shot put, 14th discus
Annabel – 16th 200m
Brodie – 12th 4x100m relay
Cody – 13th 200m, 16th 100m, 12th 4x100m relay
Hamish – 12th 4x100m relay
Jackson – 12th 4x100m relay
Ruby – 15th 1500m
Only 16 students per event, from all of the schools in the Eastern Metropolitan Region, make it to this level of competition. Congratulations to you all on such an outstanding achievement!
Basketball
Our 5/6 All Star team – Alexa, Brodie, Cody, Evan, Harvey, Hudson, Mitchell, Ryder and Tyson – have had a very busy term, competing in two different competition pathways.
On Monday the 28th of October, the team participated in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Finals at the State Basketball Centre. They played against teams from Monbulk, Templestowe and Brialee. They won their first game against Monbulk 41 – 27. Whilst still playing outstanding basketball and demonstrating great teamwork and sportsmanship, the team narrowly lost their other two games. A big thank you to Brad Pearson for coaching the team again and to Lee-Anne Izzard for supporting the team on the day.
They will now play in the Regional Hoop Time finals on Friday the 1st of November. Good luck!
Volleyball
On Tuesday the 29th of October, Rolling Hills had a team participate in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Volleyball finals for the third year running! Our 5/6 girls team played against Templeton, Rangeview and Canterbury. Whilst the rules were a lot stricter than the team were used to, they adapted really well and were competitive in each of their games. Well done Alexa, Emily, Harriette, Kyra, Linley, Lucy, Sienna and Stevie on your exemplary effort and sportsmanship! To make it to this level of competition in an unfamiliar sport is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to Joy Smith for assisting the girls and to the parents and families for their support on the day.
Interschool Sport
Our 5/6 District Fun Day will be held on Tuesday the 19th of November. Event information is now available on Compass for those students who signed up to participate. To allow all our teams to participate, we will require helpers on this day. Please contact me via Compass or email (melanie.layton@education.vic.gov.au) if you have a current Working with Children Check and can help with your child’s team.
