EISM 5-a-side Soccer Gala

On Wednesday, 16th October, four teams headed to Knox Soccer Centre to compete in the annual EISM 5-a-side Soccer competition. Boys' and girls' junior and senior teams were ready for an action-packed day, aiming for first place with fun as the priority.

The Senior Boys started with a loss but quickly built momentum, winning every other game in the fixture. With 1 loss and 5 wins, they advanced to the finals. Nathan M was on fire, twisting up the opposition with his footwork and skills to either pass or score. Steven D shot goals with great speed, catching goalies off guard, while Vid’s outstanding defence shut down all attacks. James H, stepping in as goalie for the first time, used gymnastic abilities to block shots. The teamwork was remarkable as they worked their way up the ladder under Mr Le’s expert coaching. A huge congratulations to the boys for reaching the Grand Final and achieving runner-up in the Senior Boys competition.

The Senior Girls showed grit and teamwork, winning 1 and drawing 1 of their 5 close games. Grace T, as goalie, threw herself in front of many potential goals, gaining the opposition’s attention, while Elle D scored half the team’s goals with her skilful manoeuvres around the defence. Despite facing highly skilled teams, the girls worked together with strong defence and attack, displaying the positive teamwork and "never die" attitude Huntingtower is known for.

The Junior Boys enjoyed a very successful tournament, going undefeated in the group stage and finishing top of their group. Anthony S was a standout, scoring 11 goals and earning MVP three times from the opposition. Although they fell short in the semi-finals, it was an excellent performance from the team, who showed immense determination and spirit.

The Junior Girls came together wonderfully, supporting each other both on and off the field. Their goal for the day was clear: do their best and have fun. Regardless of the scores, they persevered, staying strong in defence and fighting hard to score. Whether it was a great pass, solid defending, awesome saves from the goalkeeper, or a terrific shot on goal, the team celebrated and encouraged each other’s efforts and achievements.

Selamatan Celebration

The Indonesian Department held a Selamatan celebration for our Unit 3/4 Indonesian last week. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the end of the VCE program and bless the students for their upcoming VCE examination.

"Selamatan" (or "slametan") is a traditional Javanese communal feast, serving both social and spiritual functions. Rooted deeply in Indonesian culture, it's meant to bring harmony and balance within the community and with the spiritual world.

It strengthens community bonds and fosters a sense of togetherness, and it aims to appease spirits and deities, ensuring protection and blessings.
