From the Principal
Therefore, encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.
Thessalonians 5:11
Last week, we farewelled our Year 12 Class of 2024 at their final Assembly and Valedictory dinner. It’s easy to see a bright future with such thoughtful and accomplished students leading the way. This year’s graduating class includes state representative chess players, internationally ranked public speakers, acclaimed dancers, award-nominated performers and elite athletes. Their strength has been their willingness to embrace everything Huntingtower has offered, both academically and in extra-curricular activities.
This week, we also announced our School Captains for 2025: Olivia Woodhouse and Nicholás Cookson, along with our School Prefects. They are all outstanding young individuals who will proudly lead the way. As I introduced each of our new leaders at Assembly, I took the opportunity to reflect on American activist Ralph Nader’s insightful comment: “The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.” At Huntingtower, this idea resonates deeply because leadership here isn’t about holding a title or standing in the spotlight. Rather, it’s about creating space for others to shine and fostering a sense of responsibility across the entire student body.
At Huntingtower, there are countless opportunities for everyone to participate. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the sports field, in the arts or through community service, each student is empowered to take initiative in their own way. We all have the capacity to lead in some form and when we uplift one another, we cultivate a community where everyone can grow.
Just as the School is full of activity, so are our grounds. The gardens are bursting with colour, making this a truly glorious place to be. If you’re walking past the kiss-and-drop section in the Junior School, I encourage you to take a moment to smell the yellow roses. They are magnificent and serve as a wonderful representation of the incredible work our maintenance team does to keep our grounds so beautiful.
I look forward to seeing you all at our Junior School and/or Senior School Celebration Nights, where we will come together to celebrate everything our students have achieved this year.
