YEAR 3 NEWS

THE GRADE 3s CURIOSITY UNIT!

In Term 3, the Grade 3 cohort learnt about how First Nations people lived before early exploration. The Grade 3’s learnt about the tools used and how they lived on the land. We also learnt about the art and symbols the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used. Using the symbols we learnt about, we created our own Grade 3 SMPPS symbols that represented where we learn at SMPPS. We each chose symbols that we felt represented where our school is located. We learn near a lake, so some of us drew a lake and swans. All our classrooms look out onto the kick off and we love watching the magpies. Each student in Grade 3 has decorated their own tiles and these have all been put together to create one big artwork. This artwork will soon be placed into our new Native Garden under the flag poles.

So, whenever we enter the school, we will be really joyful and grateful.

YEARS 3 - 6 NEWS

We are thrilled to announce a very special event coming to our school! On Wednesday, 13th November 2024, we will be welcoming the internationally acclaimed Australian author Andy Griffiths to visit our students in years 3–6. Known for his wildly popular series, including The 13-Storey Treehouse, The 26-Storey Treehouse, and Wednesday Weeks, Andy’s books have sparked the imaginations of readers around the world with their humour, adventure, and unforgettable characters.

Andy Griffiths will be visiting our school from 9:15 AM to 10:00 AM for a fun-filled, interactive session with our Year 3–6 students. During this special event, Andy will share stories about his writing process, the inspiration behind his best-selling books, and perhaps even give a sneak peek into what he’s working on next! This is an amazing opportunity for students to ask questions, learn from one of the best in the business, and get inspired to write their own stories.

Bring Your Books for Signing!

This is not only a chance to hear from Andy Griffiths but also to meet him in person! Students are invited to bring one of Andy's books to the event for him to sign. Whether it’s a well-loved copy of The 13-Storey Treehouse or a newer title in the series, this is a fantastic opportunity for your child to get their book signed by the author himself.

Please note: Only one book per student can be signed, so be sure to bring along your favourite!

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for our students, and we want to make it extra memorable. Andy Griffiths’ books have sparked a love of reading and creativity in so many children, and we are incredibly lucky to have him visit our school.

We encourage all students to come prepared with their questions, excitement, and—of course—their books for signing!
