From the Head of Junior School

Mrs Virginia Milliken, Executive Director - Head of Junior School

The Junior School recently enjoyed several special events, beginning with the annual Performing Arts Evening held on Thursday, 11 June. This whole-school celebration showcased the talents of students from Kindergarten to Year 6, highlighting the rich and vibrant role of the performing arts within our school community. The evening featured a diverse range of lively and engaging performances, providing a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to come together and celebrate student creativity, confidence, and artistic expression.

Earlier in the day, we were delighted to welcome families to the Junior School for our Grandparents' and Special Friends’ Day. This much-loved occasion celebrates the significant role that grandparents and special friends play in the lives of children; providing care, wisdom, encouragement, and a strong sense of connection across generations.

The afternoon will begin with classroom visits, offering guests a valuable opportunity to share in the students’ learning experiences, followed by light refreshments in the Glasshouse. It was a joy to see the school community come together in such a warm and meaningful way.

We also look forward to welcoming prospective families to our Discover Kinder Day this Friday, 12 June. This event provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to experience the Junior School, meet our dedicated staff, and see teaching and learning in action.

On Sunday, 14 June, the Douglas House Family Chapel Service will be held at the Uniting Church on Anson Street, Orange. This service will provide a meaningful opportunity for families to gather and further strengthen the connection between Kinross Wolaroi School and the Orange Uniting Church, reflecting our identity as a Uniting Church school. All families are warmly invited to attend.

In the Junior School, our Character Strength focus for the week was Zest. Students were encouraged to approach their learning and interactions with energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to fully engage in each moment. It was pleasing to see many students embracing this positive mindset in their classrooms and daily experiences.

Our Junior School expectation for the week is Greeting People Around the School. A friendly greeting plays an important role in fostering a welcoming and connected community, and students are reminded of the value of acknowledging others with respect and warmth. These simple interactions help to build confidence and contribute to a strong sense of belonging.

Families are encouraged to support this focus by looking for opportunities to practice polite greetings at home and in the wider community, such as making eye contact, smiling, and saying “good morning” or “hello.” These small yet meaningful actions support the development of confident communicators and contribute to a positive school culture.
