Year 7 Zoo Excursion

On Wednesday 27 June, the Year 7 cohort was fortunate to enjoy a clear and dry day for the annual excursion to the Adelaide Zoo.

The excursion complemented the students' current Science unit on Habitats and Classification, providing valuable opportunities to investigate animal adaptations, compare structural features of different organism groups, and evaluate the suitability of zoo enclosures.

Upon arrival, students were welcomed by Old Scholar and Zoo volunteer David Maddison (Class of 2005), who shared fascinating insights into the Zoo’s operations and the animals in its care. Throughout the day, students examined the anatomical features of a variety of species, including differences in the beaks and feet of birds, as well as variations in body coverings and limb structures among mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish.

Students also explored a range of habitats, including coastal, rainforest, desert, temperate and wetland environments, considering how animals are adapted to survive and thrive within each ecosystem. An unexpected highlight of the day came when some students encountered Andrew 'Cosi' Costello, who was filming for South Aussie with Cosi.

Keep an eye out, you may spot some familiar faces in a future episode!

After completing their research tasks, students enjoyed time exploring the Zoo independently and observing the diverse range of animals on display. The excursion was both educational and enjoyable, and I would like to congratulate the Year 7 students on their exemplary behaviour throughout the day. Thank you also to the staff members who supported the excursion and helped make this valuable learning experience possible.

Rijken Cup Wrap

Following months of preparation, training sessions, and team selections, our Endeavour athletes were ready to take on the challenge of the Rijken Cup. Fifty students represented the College against SACSA schools across six sporting disciplines, competing with determination and enthusiasm throughout an action-packed week of competition.

Below is a summary of our teams' final placings. As a College, Endeavour finished 6th overall for the week, while both the boys' and girls' teams achieved impressive 5th-place overall finishes in their respective divisions.

The netball competition on Day 1 provided a fantastic start to the week and delivered our strongest results of the tournament. The boys narrowly lost their opening match but responded brilliantly, winning their next three games to secure a place in the grand final. Despite a determined effort, they were defeated in the final and finished as runners-up.

The girls also enjoyed a strong campaign, winning their first three matches convincingly. Although they narrowly missed a place in the grand final, they bounced back in the bronze medal match, securing a victory to finish 3rd overall.

Throughout the week, our athletes embraced every challenge and opportunity, demonstrating perseverance, teamwork, and a positive attitude both on and off the field. Their efforts, along with the guidance and support of their coaches, contributed to a successful week of competition and reflected the values of the College exceptionally well. We congratulate all involved on their achievements and the way they represented Endeavour at this year's Rijken Cup.

SACSA Cross Country

In week three, 25 Endeavour students represented the College at the SACSA Cross Country Carnival, competing against students from other SACSA schools in a challenging 3km race. With perfect conditions on the day and the sun shining, our runners were able to enjoy an excellent day of competition.

Each student approached the event with determination and gave their very best effort. It was pleasing to see many runners achieve personal best times and reach the goals they had set for themselves.

A standout performance came from Maria Agafonova, who finished 2nd in the Under 14 Girls race with an impressive time of 13:09. Our fastest runner on the day was Thomas Walton, who completed the 3km course in 11:57 to finish 5th in the Under 14 Boys competition.

We are incredibly proud of all our runners for the effort, perseverance, and determination they displayed throughout the event. The way they supported one another and represented Endeavour with enthusiasm and sportsmanship was commendable, making it a successful day.

Stage 1 Outdoor Education

It has been a busy term for our Stage 1 Outdoor Education students as they reached new heights during their Rock-Climbing unit.

Throughout the term, students developed a range of climbing skills and techniques in class before putting them into practice during our Excursion to Vertical Reality Climbing in Week 5. Students embraced the challenge of completing a variety of climbing routes and were excited to test out our recently purchased rock-climbing shoes.

In Week 6, students then took their skills to the next level during our Rock-Climbing Camp. Over two days, they tackled some of South Australia's premier climbing locations at Morialta and Onkaparinga, applying their knowledge and building confidence on real rock. Even a rainy Friday morning couldn't dampen their enthusiasm. The camp was a fantastic success, with students showing resilience, determination, and a willingness to challenge themselves. In fact, some were enjoying the experience so much that they nearly had to be peeled off the wall to head back to school!

We are incredibly proud of the way students approached each challenge and look forward to the adventures that Semester 2 Outdoor Education will bring with a whole new crew of campers.
