Respect,  Responsibility and Kindness

We have a whole school social skills lesson where we explicitly teach an expected behaviour from our Behaviour Expectation matrix.

This week we have continued to focus on Responsibility in the Learning Space: Think before you act.

Teachers spoke to students about thinking before they refuse to do their work or distract others to get their attention. Students need to be aware of how they are feeling using the Zones of Regulation and do something before they bubble over into the red zone where they lose control.

We do this by using words to communicate how we are feeling. We are so proud of our students and their excellent behaviour. The teachers and Father were so impressed at their participation and reverence in mass last Friday and the seniors' behaviour in the city on their excursion this week was outstanding!

Here are some of our PBL raffle winners  who have been seen demonstrating school expected behaviours.

Child Safety standards

To highlight the importance of Child Safety in schools, MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) has created a resource called “11 standards in 11 months.”

Let’s look at Child standard 5 in more detail through a newsletter created for parents and carers by MACS. Child safe standard 5 is that equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected in policy and practice.

Walk safely to school day

We celebrated Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 15th May, 2026. It was wonderful to see so many students meeting our staff at the two meeting points and walking to school together.

Some of the SRC students collected some data around how many students walked to school or rode their bike or rode a scooter and would like to share this with you.

Eden and Jai from LS 2 asked all the students in the Junior school how they got to school on Friday 15th May.

Seniors:

Walk to school: 38

Ride/ Scooter to school: 2

Bus/ Train to school: 0

Drive: 13

Juniors:

Walk to school: 28

Ride/ Scooter to school: 2

Bus/ Train to school: 0

Drive: 12

RJ from LS 3 were also proud to let us know that 13 students from their Home group walked to school last Friday.

Here are some of the students from RJ wearing their colourful and crazy socks to promote the important message of walk to school day. Not only are there amazing health benefits and the awareness of road safety, our students are helping to eliminate carbon emissions and pollution with less cars on the road. This is helping them be stewards of creation, something the students have been learning about in Term 2 as part of their Re and Inquiry unit.

Reconciliation Week

Next week at SFS, we will celebrate National Reconciliation week. We invite all parents and families to a special Morning Gathering prayer service to be lead by Taryn and the Fire Carrier team on Monday 25th May at 8.45am in the Multipurpose hall. We also will have the choir singing a special performance of the song “Beds are Burning” by Midnight Oil.

This year’s theme, All In, is a clear call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. Each of us has a role to play, and the work cannot be left to First Nations peoples who have carried the weight for too long. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

If you have any concern about your child’s mental health or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact me or make a time to speak with me. My working days are Monday to Wednesday and Friday.
