It has been an incredibly busy and creative few weeks in the television studio as our Year 7 classes have stepped behind and in front of the cameras!

The Year 7s have been filming their latest assessments, bringing some characters to life. Students had the privilege of working with the awesome puppet collection provided by Ms. Close, alongside a fantastic array of their own puppet creations. The creativity on display was amazing, with everything from hand-crafted monsters to heroes making their on-screen debuts.

Year 8 English classes to bring literature to life.

They filmed a gripping, unscripted courtroom drama based on the novel Holes. The students took on the challenge of writing and acting out an extra court case that never appeared in the original movie or book. It was a fantastic way for the Year 8s to dive deeper into the themes of the novel.

A huge congratulations to all the students involved for their teamwork, creativity, and technical skills. Stay tuned.

Photography

This term in 10 Film and Photography, we held our film production day. For the third CAT in the subject, the whole class worked together to produce a short film. Each student had their own roles and responsibilities for producing our film, a short horror film called Flicker, directed by Inara Linehan and Maya Mariona.

On production day, all the principal photography and audio was captured for the film during a marathon 4-period filming session. Everyone worked well together to complete the filming on such a short deadline. Congratulations to 10 Film and Photography for a great semester, and the film turned out great!

Our Year 7 students explored sculpture in art. A hands on creative challenge, exploring their choices through the tactile medium of clay.

This project asked students to find representations of themselves through three distinct lenses, animal, mineral or in some cases vegetables.

By reflecting on their individual personalities and the beautiful diversity within our classroom, students chose values to match the characters or objects they decided to sculpt, exploring 3D form.

The students produced some wonderful results that really show off their unique styles. Some built impressive, stacked animal figures that highlight their different personality traits, while others chose to tell a story by combining organic shapes with symbols like stars, hearts and dragons. We also saw some clever designs where students created stackable, face-like pieces, showing how all our different experiences fit together.

This project was a great way for our students to build their sculpture skills while having some tactile fun with self expression.

Each piece acts like a little portrait of who they are, and it’s been lovely to see the creativity and diversity in these finished works.

We can’t wait to see what they create next!

Music News

Term 2 has been a huge one for the SOC Music Department! We made a wonderful appearance at the annual Oakleigh South Primary School Fete on Saturday, May 2, in which our Big Band played an hour-long set of jazz standards entertaining everybody in the main hall, which was packed full of parents and students who stopped by to hear some wonderful music on their way to and from the Ferris wheels and hot dogs.

May 26 saw our Semester 1 Concert – ‘Eras of Rock’, where our audience was treated to a selection of hits performed by our ensembles, including Concert Band, Pop Ensemble, String Ensemble, Choir, Junior Concert Band, our Year 10 Ensemble, our VCE Bands and the famous Acez.

The concert was hosted by our Performing Arts Captains, Evie Edge and Tal Ilan, who brought their own comedic flare to the evening.
