End Of Term 2 :

Senior Football Day

Under the leadership of Coach Barr, Senior Boys Footy went out on the 15th of May to Princes Highway Reserve where we had to take on both Brentwood SC and John Monash SS in a round robin.

With a poor record of senior footy in the past, the boys this year felt they had something to prove. Coming up against John Monash to begin with, the boys played their hearts out in what could only be described as a blood bath. We ran over the top of JMSS in a 114-point thrashing, the team worked together like a well-oiled machine with standout performances from the captain, Hunter Hayes, and Takoda Arjana in the middle, Aiden Van Oosten up forward with 5 goals and Luka Kulas in the ruck for the first time in his life with some of the smoothest tap downs and placements SOC has ever seen.

We followed up game 1 with a match against Brentwood SC. Brentwood was neck and neck with South Oakleigh all the way to the last quarter. The game was characterised by incredible effort and one percenters, an inspirational speech from Assistant Coach Augie Thurgood Gates at half time and three-quarter time had the boys pumped for another win, and by the time the last quarter had ended we came out victorious with a 28 point win and the first Senior Boys Monash Division flag in SOC history.

Pushing through two games of football meant boys were cramping, but the fight and spirit never stopped with massive shoutouts to Lewis Manzo, James Dumic, Alex Saito, Hugo Pruscino Campbell Brown, River Zielenski and Nikita Kourkouridis as the year 12 cohort that took part and pushed so hard to get a senior team up and running this year. We move on to regionals in July with hope in our hearts and fire in our bellies.

While the results didn't always fall our way, the team never stopped competing and supported one another from the first whistle to the last. Wellington Secondary College fielded two National Premier Leagues (NPL) senior players, highlighting the exceptionally high standard of the competition. Brentwood Secondary College went on to win the group.

Congratulations to all of our players for the way they represented South Oakleigh College. Your commitment, teamwork and positive attitude were outstanding, and you should be incredibly proud of your efforts.

The annual SOC House Athletics Carnival took off with a bang on the sunny last Tuesday of the term. The Athletics Carnival is a highlight on the school calendar that brings together competition, camaraderie, and school spirit in equal measure.

It was also the final opportunity for year 12s to come together as a group for a school sporting carnival. House colours and original costumes streaked across the field as competitors gave their all, fueled by the roar of the crowd.

The highlights included the staff vs student relay where the teachers were shamefully beaten by three of the four student teams. Overall, Grevillea were crowned the winners of the Athletics Day –followed by Acacia, Banksia and Waratah.

Cross Country

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals: Cross Country June 11th

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country Final brought together student athletes from across the region for one of the most competitive cross country events of the school athletics calendar.

Held at the picturesque Yarra Glen Racecourse, the venue provided a challenging and scenic course that tested the endurance and determination of competitors from numerous participating schools.

Our school was proudly represented by 35 dedicated student athletes. The track conditions were only slightly damp as the day was mainly bathed in sunshine. The runners tackled the challenging course with determination and sportsmanship, demonstrating the commitment they've shown in the Monash Division. Congratulations to all competitors on their outstanding effort, whilst we didn’t have any students progress to the next round, every student represented our school with pride.

The Monash Division Cross Country event was held at Norton’s Park on the 19th May 2026. South Oakleigh College took a record number 85 students to compete the three and five kilometer track. It was a sunny day and conditions were perfect for the run.

South Oakleigh College won the Junior and Middle school aggregate shield and then went on to win the overall event for the Monash Division – a first time for SOC! Some highlights from the event include Rory Mcrae, Lidia Volpert and Ryder Rutlidge all coming first in their respective age groups.
