MRS KATH JONES - DEPUTY PRINCIPAL: COMMUNITY & CULTURE

Over the past two weeks, our school community has been alive with energy, connection and celebration. It has been a joy to witness so many opportunities for our students to learn, grow and engage and equally heartening to see the strong support of our families throughout these events.
Last week, we proudly celebrated Catholic Education Week, a special time to reflect on the values that guide our school and the shared mission we hold in nurturing each student. A highlight of the week was joining with our neighbouring school community for the CESH Mass at St Mary’s Primary School. This gathering was a meaningful reminder of our collective faith and commitment to Catholic education. Seeing our students participate with reverence and pride reinforced the importance of these shared experiences in shaping their sense of belonging and purpose.
Another standout event was our Subject Expo, thoughtfully organised by our dedicated teaching staff. This was a wonderful opportunity for families to step into the learning environment and experience first-hand the breadth of subjects and pathways available at SMMC. It was truly fantastic to see so many parents and carers in attendance, engaging in conversations with teachers and students alike. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with curiosity, enthusiasm and plenty of smiling faces. Events like this highlight the strength of our community and the value of working in partnership to support student learning.
This week, we have been celebrating Language Week, which has brought an added sense of excitement and cultural richness to our school. Through various activities and classroom experiences, students have been encouraged to explore and appreciate the diversity of languages and cultures that exist in our world. These opportunities not only broaden their understanding but also foster respect, curiosity and global awareness, skills that are so important in today’s interconnected society.
Adding a touch of fun and community spirit, we also acknowledged International Redhead Day. It was wonderful to see students and staff embracing the occasion with good humour, creating a light-hearted moment that strengthened connections and brought plenty of smiles across the school.
Together, these events reflect the wide range of opportunities available to our students at SMMC, from academic exploration and faith celebration to cultural learning and community-building fun. They are a testament to the dedication of our staff, who continually strive to create meaningful and engaging experiences for all students.
Most importantly, we would like to thank you, our parents and families, for your ongoing support. Your presence at events, your encouragement at home, and your willingness to engage with the school make a significant difference. The partnership between school and home is vital, and we are deeply appreciative of the role you play in helping our students thrive.
We look forward to continuing to share these enriching experiences with you throughout the year.
