Kitchen Garden Program – Year 5/6B

On Monday 1st June, the students in 5/6B embraced the opportunity to explore Colombian cuisine in our Kitchen Garden Program, preparing delicious Colombian arepas alongside a hearty vegetarian chilli con carne.

Throughout the cooking session, students demonstrated impressive growth in both their practical cooking abilities and their organisational skills. From carefully reading recipes and measuring ingredients to managing their time and working collaboratively, students took increasing ownership of each stage of the cooking process.

It has been particularly rewarding to see students confidently take responsibility for their recipes, making thoughtful decisions and supporting one another to achieve successful outcomes. Their ability to organise equipment, follow procedures, and maintain safe and efficient workspaces continues to improve with every session.

One of the most exciting aspects of our Kitchen Garden Program is watching students' confidence flourish over the years. As they gain experience in the kitchen, they become more independent, resilient, and willing to tackle new challenges. The pride they feel in creating and sharing their dishes is evident, and their growing enthusiasm for cooking and learning about different cultures is inspiring to see, especially when they are keen to recreate these recipes at home for their family and friends to enjoy.
