What's happening in Italian?

Salve,

Welcome to Week 8.

With the end of the year just around the corner, here’s a peek at all the wonderful learning happening in Italian.

Our Prep students have been revising the names of 2D shapes in Italian through fun vocabulary games that help them practise correct pronunciation. They have also begun using shapes to create simple pictures such as a sun, house, or boat.  The students are choosing, placing, and organising shapes to form images.  They are using skills in shape recognition, fine motor control and spatial awareness as they learn and build confidence through play and creativity.

Our Year 1 and 2 students had lots of fun using 2D shapes to get creative. They watched a video on how to draw a robot using simple shapes and followed along carefully, adding their own special touches to make each robot unique.  Students then put their spatial-awareness thinking skills to the test by arranging sets of shapes to build a rocket and a train. This hands-on activity helped them practise shape name recognition in Italian, design skills, creativity, and problem-solving, all while having a great time exploring Italian learning through art and imagination.

Our Year 3 and 4 students have been putting their understanding of 2D shapes into practice by designing their own imaginative pictures.  Students were asked to keep their designs within an Italian theme, and their creativity truly shone through. Some students designed a pizza, using 2D shapes to represent the toppings, while others created colourful Carnevale masks, incorporating a variety of shapes to make their designs unique and eye-catching. Many other clever and original ideas were also explored.

Year 5 and 6 students have been applying their knowledge of 2D shapes in a creative and purposeful way by designing a floor plan of a house. Using digital tools, they labelled each room in Italian and incorporated 2D shapes to draw items of furniture to complete their design. This engaging task allowed students to combine Design and Technology skills with mathematical thinking, Italian vocabulary, and spatial reasoning, showcasing their ability to integrate learning across multiple areas.

The students continue to impress me with their hard work and imaginative thinking.  I am Looking forward to celebrating more of their learning as the year wraps up.

Alla prossima volta,

Saluti
