Despite an interrupted preparation due to a bout of flu leading into competition week, Year 7 student, Holly Steinback showed remarkable courage and resilience on the national stage.
Despite feeling unwell in the lead-up, Holly chose to step up, race hard, and represent Queensland with pride demonstrating determination well beyond her years.

Even though she wasn’t at 100%, Holly’s performances were outstanding.
One of the true highlights of the meet was her role in the 200m Medley Relay, where Holly delivered a strong breaststroke leg for Queensland, contributing to a Bronze Medal finish. A podium result at a national level is an incredible achievement.
In an unexpected and special honour, Holly was also called upon to swim for New South Wales in the 200m Freestyle Relay. Donning the blue cap, she produced a huge personal best, helping the team to a 6th place finish and showing her adaptability, team-first mindset, and ability to rise to the moment, no matter the colour of the cap.
To Holly
Your Clayfield family is incredibly proud. You embodied the true essence of school sport: stepping up, supporting teammates, and competing with heart. We cannot wait to see what you achieve next. Let this be the beginning of even greater things ahead!

The recent Queensland qualifying event for the 12U and 14U Australian Grasscourt Championships, held at Redland Bay Tennis Club, brought outstanding performances from our Clayfield College SHINE Program athletes. With only the winner of each age division earning a place at the National Championships in Victoria this December, the level of competition was exceptionally high.
In the 14U Boys, Michael Maddelena delivered a strong campaign, reaching the semi-finals in an impressive display of consistency. In the 12U Girls, Naila Velic also made a remarkable run, advancing to the quarter-finals and demonstrating her continued development on the court.

The spotlight, however, shone on Iris O’Donnell, who claimed victory in the 14U Girls division. This outstanding achievement now earns Iris the honour of representing Queensland at the National Grasscourt Championships in Victoria, where she will compete against the best junior athletes from across Australia.

We congratulate all three students on their results and the way they represented Clayfield College with grit, sportsmanship, and determination. We wish Iris every success as she prepares for Nationals in December.
Your Clayfield College community is right behind you!
At just 12 years old, Grace Hunter has continued to build on her incredible momentum as one of the brightest young middle-distance talents in the country. Her discipline, passion, and unwavering work ethic have once again earned her selection for the prestigious School Sport Australia National Track and Field Championships, where she will compete in the 12 Years 1500m event.
This year’s championship will be held in Canberra from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 November 2025, bringing together the nation’s finest junior athletes and celebrating emerging talent in the sport.

Grace’s journey reflects her remarkable commitment, and love for running. Qualifying for a national championship is an outstanding achievement, and Grace continues to inspire her peers and the Clayfield College community with her determination.
To Grace
You have already accomplished something exceptional by earning your place among Australia’s top young athletes. As you step onto the track in Canberra, know that your Clayfield family will be cheering you on every step of the way.
Best of luck, Grace. Let your light shine!
