French

Well done to all students at Moriac for making it to the end of the year and keeping those smiles on their faces! It has been a long and fun Term 4, and students have been creating some amazing work in French this term.

Prep

Students have been learning about farm animals this term and they completed their Common Assessment Tasks last week for French speaking, listening, reading and writing and it was a pleasure to see their beautiful work. Students have been learning vocabulary using whole body response, and they have done a wonderful job being able to say the word, understand the word when spoken in French, and read the word when it is written down. Well done to the entire Prep cohort for their amazing work this year in French!!

Grade 1/2

Students have been working on their speaking and listening in French this term through performing a play of the Billy Goats Gruff. All students performed their play last week for their Common Assessment Task, and it was beautiful to see not only how amazing their French accents were, but how well they all worked as a team to encourage and support each other while performing. Félicitations to all the amazing students in Grade 1/2!

Grade 3/4

This term, the Grade 3/4 students have been refining some grammar skills they have looked at this year, thinking about feminine and masculine noun and adjective agreements. We have completed some new vocabulary work and worked on their French speaking, listening and writing. We have ended the year with a cultural dive into French food and recipes. Students have been researching French food and writing recipes in English for us all to have a go at making over the holidays. My favourite (and easiest) French recipe is crêpes. Bravo to all the incredible 3/4 students for their hard work and their amazing progress in French this year! Merci!!

Crêpes recipe

Ingredients: (for 3 people)

250g flour

250ml milk

250ml water

3 eggs

a pinch of salt

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 tablespoon of oil

Mix all ingredients together so there are no lumps - you may need to use an electric hand mixer.

Heat the frypan so that it is hot, and grease with a small amount of butter.

Using a ladle, pour the batter into the middle of the pan and rotate the pan so that the batter covers the whole base of the pan.

When it is easy to lift from the sides, flip and cook the other side.

Serve with your choice of fruit, chocolate spread, jams, lemon and sugar - or make savoury crepes with ham, cheese and egg. C'est déliciuex!!

Grade 5/6

Students this term have been revising grammar concepts and sentence structures while looking at sports. They have recently looked at the Tour de France and developed their own version for Australia. More recently, just as the 3/4s have been doing, they have been doing a cultural exploration of French foods. Students have researched traditional French food and published recipes in English for us to make at home.

Below is a link to another of my favourites - and a perfect one for summer - mussels! We are lucky to have Port Arlington down the road with their delicious mussels, and the dish is most typically French when served with fresh crusty bread and fries! A nice easy recipe and the kids can get involved cleaning the mussels for you.

Congratulations to all the 5/6 students for their hard work in French this year! And I wish all the grade 6 students the very best as they head off to High School. I'm sure they will all flourish and enjoy learning whichever language they are lucky enough to learn next year. Good Luck et bonne chance

Au Revoir

It has been an amazing year at Moriac - and I have had an amazing three years seeing all the students grow, learn and flourish! I have loved teaching every student at Moriac Primary School and am very sad to be leaving. As you might know, I am heading off to High School myself next year, teaching French at Clarendon College in Ballarat as I am moving to Teesdale with my family.

I am incredibly proud of how far all the students have come with their French and hope that they continue to thrive and grow! If you are looking to continue your French learning over the holidays, the app Duolingo for French on iPads and other devices is a great platform for students to practice and learn the language.

I hope you all have a most magical and wonderful summer holidays. I wish all students at Moriac the best in realising and achieving their dreams as they move forward into the future.

Joyeux Noël, bonne année et au revoir à tous!
