St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Thank you to everybody who has helped donated items so that OHR can support the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. Whether that was donating zooper doopers, food items or a gift voucher - all of this helps.
Special shout out to the RE Student Leaders in Years 5/6 who have faithfully sold Zooper Doopers every Tuesday and Thursday after school for the last month or so.

RE Learning in 5/6DG
In Year 5/6 this term we have been learning about Justice and what it looks like. We learnt about the differences of equity, equality and justice. We did a visual art work where we showed what we learnt this term. For example Alexis P drew an affected world.
“The flames represent climate change, the systemic barrier is the fire. The way it is removed by Justice is the people putting out the fire. They saw the situation and took action.” - Alexis P.
The words: equality, equity and justice all have similar yet different meanings. Equality is everyone getting the same thing no matter what, Equity is everyone getting what they need, and Justice is being addressed by the situation and removing the systemic barrier that is causing the problem. For example Gabriella W did a small comic strip showcasing the different meanings and showed them visually. “A common barrier around the world is access for people with disabilities. I show in my work how an able person can walk up stairs however the person in a wheel chair cannot. This is showing the systemic barrier that many people have. They both have stairs unfortunately the person who has a wheel chair is unable to go up, that is called: Equality. Next the person in a wheelchair chair has a ramp and the able person has stairs. This is called: Equity, they'll get what they need. In my last panel they addressed the problem and they built an elevator helping all the problems and still being equal. -Gabriella W
Edward C has shown the systemic barrier and justice in a different way. “The problem addressed the same, however, I showed the problem and the solution in one drawing and showed the stairs holding back a person on a wheelchair and a ramp on the other side supporting the person on the wheelchair to the doors” -Edward C. Through these examples we have shown systemic barriers and justice. Many people go through these barriers everyday and some are still not solved with justice yet. This world can be un-equal but if we do small solutions to help one big problem one day we could be an equal world. So why don’t you show justice to others today?

Sunday Gospel
The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?’ Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor; and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.’
As the messengers were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No? Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Oh no, those who wear fine clothes are to be found in palaces. Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet: he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger before you; he will prepare your way before you. I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.’
Discussion Questions
1. Who is the special person we are waiting for at Christmas?
2. Why is Jesus so special?
3. Who are the people in the world who need Jesus?
4. Why do we need Jesus?
Let us pray that Jesus will come into people’s hearts this Christmas.
