Latest News | Presentation Day celebrations

On Thursday 21 November, we joined Presentation People around the world in commemorating the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, which is a significant feast day in the Catholic tradition.

Our Presentation Day celebration began with a heartfelt message from the Presentation Sisters in Ireland, who shared these inspiring words:

“Presentation Day carries an even deeper meaning this year, as we prepare to launch in December the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Presentation Congregation by Nano Nagle in 1775. Nano’s life and legacy continue to invite us to live daily for something other than ourselves. We give thanks for all those involved in the activities and celebrations that will bring such joy, inspiration and hope in her name, while continuing to share Nano’s story with our community.”

Coming together as Presentation People, Year 5 students from St Brigid's Catholic School visited our College to join our Year 5 students for a day of connection and formation activities.

Highlights included a liturgy and assembly with Prep–Year 10 students featuring a live re-enactment of the story of the Presentation Sisters, reflections, a Kahoot quiz and beautiful lantern artworks. We also heard about our Year 7 postcard exchange with fellow Presentation school, Iona College in Western Australia.

We are delighted to announce that this year, our House fundraising initiatives raised more than $4,900 for the Presentation Sisters’ mission in the Philippines. Sister Majella personally thanked our students for their outstanding support, sharing that this generous contribution will help families establish small businesses, acquire assets such as livestock, and build sustainable livelihoods.

Students also participated in the St Mary’s Reflection Walk, where they explored stations that depict our College’s origin story and Nano Nagle’s journey. Working in small groups, they discovered unique details of our Presentation heritage.

The day concluded with a special Mass celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Presentation Sisters. Afterwards, Sister Monica, Sister Barbara, Sister Marilyn, Sister Elizabeth, and Sister Majella enjoyed afternoon tea – a tradition Nano herself would have cherished.

Our Presentation story and faith are central to who we are at SMC, and we take great pride in our rich Presentation heritage. Thank you to all who contributed to the organisation of this day, which was a lovely opportunity to gather as a faith-filled Presentation community, united in spirit and tradition.
