Year 8 Camp: Grampians
Amy Ng, Year 8 Student
I will never forget those special moments that I shared with my year 8 companions filled with fun and memorable experiences at the year 8 camp. At the Roses Gap campsite in the Grampians, I really enjoyed waking up early in morning to see the wonderful wildlife just outside our doors, the chaos and fun talks amongst friendships in our cabin at night, and the amusing camp activities each day including; canoeing, big swing, rock climbing, abseiling and more. I also think that one of the best parts about this camp would be the delicious food served at Roses Gap!
One of the highlights at camp would be the overnight hike, which was an incredible opportunity to sleep in tents outdoors, cook dinner together with friends, and witness the breathtaking sceneries at the Grampians. Along the hike, students were also encouraged to take a moment to pray and reflect on this year and the camp. During this time, I learned the importance to spend time with God in his beautiful creation and reminded me to also to feel gratitude.
The year 8 students all enjoyed this camp experience in the outdoors to draw themselves closer with their friendships, building on their culture and community, challenge their abilities with different camp activities and spend time in and to reflect on God’s wonderful creation. Special thanks to the teachers and staff who organized, guided and participated in activities with us students which made it such a memorable and fun experience for the year 8 community.

Noah & Aaron Williamson
Aaron and Noah Williamson (Year 7) were this year selected for the 12 Year Old Boys School Sport Victoria (SSV) Victorian teams for AFL and Soccer respectively. Their selection was a wonderful achievement, with over 1000 Victorian school boys who trialled! For Aaron (AFL) this process involved five trials, and for Noah (Soccer) seven trials.
Aaron was selected to be a part of the AFL squad of 23 boys from Melbourne and Country Victoria. He was also chosen to be a part of the leadership group for the Victorian team, a fantastic achievement! The School Sport Australia National Australian Football Championship was held in Maroochydore in August. Victoria won all their games and won the Championship. Well done, Aaron!
Noah was selected as part of the Victorian Blue Soccer team (the A team). The School Sport Australia Soccer Championship was held in Ballarat in October. Victoria played seven games against all Australian States and Territories (except Tasmania), and including the other Victorian team (the B team). The competition in soccer was very close. Noah’s team won five of their games and lost two. As a result, the team finished second overall and were awarded silver medals. Well done, Noah!
This was an incredible experience for both Aaron and Noah to represent their state, and our college, at the highest level of SSV. We praise God for these opportunities and look forward to continuing to cheer on Aaron and Noah in their sporting endeavours.
Lachlan & Joshua Spence
Lachlan Spence (Year 11) was selected earlier in the year as part of the U17’s Victorian State Rugby Union Squad, and Joshua Spence (Year 9) was selected in the U15’s Victorian Rugby Union Squad. What fantastic achievements!
The season is now over, and after a brief break, they are back in the gym and into preseason training for 2026. We wish them all the best for their upcoming seasons!
Grace Cameron & Ezra Horneman
We also wish to congratulate Grace (Year 9) and Ezra (Year 11) on their selection into SSV State Teams this year. Grace was selected in the SSV U15 Volleyball Team and won a silver medal with her team!
Ezra has been selected in the U17 Cricket Team and will compete in his tournament from the 5th to 12th of January next year. All the best Ezra!
Year 12 Formal
Nat Ayton, Head of House - Cuthbert
On Wednesday 19th November we shared our last official DCC event with the Class of 2025 – their Year 12 Formal. Set in the beautiful, tranquil surrounds of Warrandyte, with delicious food and great company, we celebrated what has been a great journey for these young people.
Seeing them all dressed up and free from the pressures of deadlines and exams, there was a feeling of optimism and hope for what the next chapter will bring. A number of them are certain about their next steps, others are unsure, but one thing we do know is that while a lot of the structures these young people have had will change or disappear – God will forever remain a constant source of guidance and comfort.
My lasting impression of the class of 2025, as I watched them navigate the end of school, was how remarkably thankful they were. They went out of their way on numerous occasions to express their gratitude for those who had helped them along the way. They made it their mission to seek people out during the final events to say a heartfelt thank you to other students, parents, current teachers, but even teachers that taught them many, many years ago. These young people enriched the life of the school when they were here, and they finished with a spirit of grace and thankfulness.
Well done, class of 2025!
