Year 2: CERES Excursion
Sarah Halls, Year 2 Teacher
On Monday 10th November, as part of our Inquiry unit Geo Kids, the Year Two students visited the CERES School of Nature and Climate to explore how we can care for our environment and strengthen our connection to the places we live in. During the excursion, we dug for earthworms, explored the herb gardens, and planted seeds to take home and nurture. The students also enjoyed playing in the wonderful playground and discussing ways we can improve our recycling habits to help protect our planet. We were fortunate to have mild, dry weather on the day and are very grateful to the parents who joined us and helped make the excursion such a success.
Year 1: Supreme Design Tech Incursion
Kirsti Le Page, Year 1 Team Leader
On Wednesday 12th November our Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting, hands on Inquiry incursion in the Community Hub. The day was designed to complement our recent learning on solid structures, materials, design processes, friction and waterproofing.
During one of the activities, students worked in small teams to design and build a sturdy shelter for a Lego character. They had to ensure their shelters were strong, waterproof and well designed. It was a true test of teamwork and creativity! The students showed wonderful collaboration and problem-solving skills.
When participating in the other activity, students rotated through three engaging tasks: Billy Cart driving, designing a moving model that could travel long distances and following written instructions to build an object. These activities encouraged persistence, coordination and clear communication, all vital skills needed for working as an effective team.
It was wonderful to see the students’ enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork throughout the day. We are so proud of how well they represented our school and grateful for opportunities like these that make learning come alive. What a fantastic day of fun, learning and growth!
Creative Thinking Excursion
Harry Foster, Year 5 Team Leader
Year 5 students recently enjoyed a hands-on incursion designed to strengthen their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Throughout the session, students were encouraged to identify challenges, try new strategies and discover their own solutions with support available when needed.
Students worked with STEM equipment, including a train and various robots, disassembling components and navigating unfamiliar tasks. These activities required persistence and flexible thinking as students adapted their approaches or collaborated with friends to overcome difficulties.
They also completed floor and maths puzzles, working together to test ideas and develop effective strategies. The incursion provided a fun and practical way for students to build confidence, think creatively and approach challenges with a growth mindset.
