Year 10 Diversity Students Cook for the Community

Warm Acts of Service

Throughout Terms Two and Three, our Year 10 Diversity students embraced a meaningful and heartfelt project, preparing and cooking soup each week for the Hope Charity Outreach Program. What started as a class activity quickly became a treasured act of service, reminding our students of the power of kindness and the importance of caring for others in our community.

This year Lumen Christi College partnered with Coles Gosnells, who generously donated a large box of fresh vegetables and soup stock every week. Their support ensured that students could cook enough warm, nourishing soup to feed at least 30 people experiencing hardship. This collaboration not only provided essential ingredients but also showed our students the strength that comes from working together for a good cause.

For the Diversity students, the project was a hands-on lesson in compassion, teamwork, and social responsibility. They discovered that something as simple as cooking soup can carry deep meaning for someone facing loneliness or difficult times. Each pot stirred and each bowl served became a reminder that small acts of service can offer comfort, connection, and hope.

A particularly moving moment came when the College received a large Thank You card from the soup recipients. The heartfelt messages touched both staff and students, reinforcing the impact of their efforts. Paul Hogan, Store Manager at Coles Gosnells, summed it up beautifully when he wrote, “It was not just a cup of soup – it was far more than that. It was the highlight of their week, their only  connection with the world, where they are seen, heard, respected, and treated with dignity.”

We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 Diversity students for their warmth, generosity, and commitment to serving others. Their actions have brightened lives and strengthened our community.
