Healesville Sanctuary - Grade 1& 2

On Tuesday 20 May, the Grade 1 & 2 students ventured to Healesville Sanctuary as part of their inquiry unit "Connections between people and places", a rich exploration of native animals, habitats and Dreamtime stories.
In a special workshop led by guide Lachie, students learned how Aboriginal cultures teach us that everything is connected to Country. Students explored Aboriginal symbols, watched fire-making demonstrations and discovered how native plants are used for food, medicine and fishing.
One highlight was seeing a possum skin cloak, representing identity, stories and Country for its owner. Seeing this cloak connected deeply with our school's own cross-age program Kooramook, which translates to Possum Cloak Dreaming.
The day also included the magical Spirits of the Sky bird show and plenty of hands-on discovery of the bush.
We would like to thank our parent volunteers who came along to support this day.
