Tales From Teaching & Learning

This week’s edition of Fly High is one of academic celebration!! Over the last two weeks at our Friday assembly, we have celebrated 59 students for their participation and progress on Math Fact Lab and Numbots. We are so excited that students are regularly logging on at home and building their maths fact fluency. The very long list of student names can be found below.
Thank you to all of the families who purchased the Mental Maths book. Orders closed at the end of last week with 113 books purchased! We are in the process of finalising the order with the supplier and will send them home as soon as they arrive.
The Young Mathematical Story Authors (YMSA)2025 Competition
We have very special students at KPS who work extremely hard. Two of these students have both committed to participating in academically challenging activities over the last few months. Vidhula in Yr 4 and Phoenix in Yr 3 both took up the challenge to participate in The Young Mathematical Story Authors (YMSA)2025 Competition. The YMSA competition is the world's first annual international competition set up to encourage young mathematics learners (4-16 years old) from around the world to embed their mathematics learning in a meaningful and engaging context through creating their own mathematical story picture books.
There were 1,361 entries from 127 schools representing 20 countries from all over the world! We are so proud of both Phoenix and Vidhula for participating this year. Vidhula’s story was shortlisted and is featured on the competition website.

ICAS All Stars
Phoenix and Vidhula were also invited to participate in the ICAS All Stars competition earlier this year based on their results from participating in ICAS last year. The All-Stars competition is a new addition to the ICAS assessments. Phoenix and Vidhula have both written about their experiences…
Phoenix… ICAS All-Stars was an amazing thing! It had 6 categories. In the state for year 3 I got top 2%, and in the whole state I got top 17%. It was in a different school and there were lots of different kids. The awards I got were the Galaxy Badge and the Hadar Award. ICAS All-Stars was a fun thing.
Vidhula…Hello everyone, my name is Vidhula.
In April this year I competed in the first ever ICAS All-Stars competition. This is a competition that tests English, Maths and Science. I was in the Junior assessment tier, which is for students in grades 3, 4 and 5. I am very happy with my results. In the year-level I got the Galaxy Badge for being in the top 5% of students and in the Junior assessment-tier I got the Canopus Award for being in the top 2% to 10% of students. My favourite thing about ICAS All-Stars was the tricky questions.
