A Message From

Miss Loren

6th of June 2025

Dear Families,

The final weeks of Term 2 are always a busy time, with excursions, incursions, student expos, and reporting. It’s also the time of year when children and staff often start sharing colds and other viruses as the weather gets colder. We encourage everyone to take extra care during this busy period and ask families to please avoid sending unwell children to school, as germs spread easily at this time.

Visitors

Over the last 2 weeks we have had other schools and Inclusion coaches for the region visit our school to learn about the inclusive practices we use at KPS which support our learners. Here is a direct quote from one of our coach visitors:

It (KPS) is impressive! The classrooms are calm, students are engaged and learning, the routines and systems to support students are visible and on point…. . Keelonith Primary School demonstrates a model of how the components (Learning and Wellbeing) work together for inclusive practice.

This feedback is evidence of the strong routines and processes we have in place to support learning of every child at KPS.

National Reconciliation Week

Keelonith Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, learn, work, and play. They were the first to walk this land and care for it. For tens of thousands of years, they have maintained a deep connection through culture, language, and story. We honour that enduring relationship and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Last week, Keelonith Primary School observed National Reconciliation Week (27th May to 3rd June), an important time inviting all Australians “to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia” (Reconciliation Australia). Throughout the week, students engaged in meaningful classroom activities designed to deepen their understanding and reflect on how we can all contribute to reconciliation in everyday life.

Reconciliation Week coincides with National Sorry Day on 26th May. Students across the school took part in age-appropriate learning experiences to explore its meaning and significance. Junior students learned about the importance of saying sorry and how it helps heal relationships, while older students explored the history behind the day and why recognising past wrongs matters.

Prep Enrolments – 2026

Do you or someone you know have a child starting school in 2026? We are now accepting enrolments for next year. Fortnightly tours have already commenced on Thursdays. Specific dates are available on our website here: https://keelonithps.vic.edu.au/enrolment/#tour.

Recent Activities

Over the last fortnight, our students have enjoyed excursions to the Botanical Gardens (Years 5/6) and the Zoo (Year 1). Year 1 also hosted a learning expo on Australian animals. It was wonderful to see so many families attend the Year 1 Expo and provide an authentic audience for our learners.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Each year, all Australian schools participate in the NCCD on students receiving adjustments due to disability. This process involves identifying information already available in the school about the support provided to these students. At KPS, we will be gathering this information with staff during the last weeks of Term 2 and early Term 3. For more details, please visit: https://www.nccd.edu.au/sites/default/files/nccd_parent_fact_sheet_english_0.pdf.

Uniform

As the weather cools, please ensure all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled. We have a large amount of lost property and do our best to return items to their owners. Students may wear a coat on cold days, but this cannot replace their school jumper. Please check your child’s uniform each morning to ensure they are wearing the correct school attire. Hoodies are not permitted due to safety risks; however, hoods on warm coats are allowed to protect against the cold winds here at KPS.

Late Arrival

Arriving late to school can increase anxiety in students and disrupt learning. The start of the day is very important as it prepares children for the day ahead. If you arrive late, you must sign your child in at the office—updating attendance on your phone does not update the roll through Compass. For safety reasons, children must be signed in by a parent.

Student Free Days

Please arrange childcare.

  • Thursday, 24th July – 3 Way Conferences (10:00 am – 6:30 pm). Students do not attend classes but only their conference times.
  • Monday, 3rd November – Report Writing Day
  • Friday, 5th December – Curriculum Day (2026 Preparation)

We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday.

Happy Eid to all families who are celebrating!

Thank you,

Loren Peavey
