A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the FLC on Heights Campus
What a busy and exciting term it’s been so far! We’re already more than halfway through, and Foundation A and Foundation B have taken part in a wide range of engaging learning experiences. The students continue to show wonderful enthusiasm, a strong eagerness to learn, and a growing confidence in following classroom routines and expectations.
This week, our FLC students have been learning about the importance of Reconciliation Week.
This year’s theme for National Reconciliation Week is "Bridging Now to Next" which encourages all Australians to reflect on our history, grow together, and move forward united—drawing strength from past lessons and hope for a shared future.
On the Friday 30th May, both campuses had a special Reconciliation Week Assembly, where all the students participated in a whole school cross-campus musical number! The students performed to the song ‘Solid Rock’ by Goanna. Stay tuned for the 🎉🎉Springvale Rise RAP Music Video. 🎉🎉
In Reading, the students have been working on identifying letters and their most common sounds, recognising our Magic Words within texts, and using initial sounds to help decode unfamiliar words. The students have also been developing their comprehension skills by discussing the books we read and using the pictures to gather clues about the story.
We are fortunate again this year to be part of the Greater City of Dandenong Libraries -Reading Buddy Program. This involves Family Literacy Officers from the Springvale Library coming into our learning space twice a week and reading with our some of our FLC and JLC students.
