Year 7 Humanities Excursion

Our Year 7 students had a fantastic time on their recent excursion to the Yarra Ranges Museum, as part of their Geography unit on Place and Livability. This hands-on learning experience gave students the opportunity to explore the interconnectedness of people, place, and the environment in a meaningful and engaging way.
A special highlight was hearing from First Nations educator Aunty Meryl, who shared stories and insights about the local area's Indigenous history and deep connection to Country.
Students took part in guided tours, examined historical objects, documents, and photographs, and investigated the lives of significant local figures. They were challenged to interrogate these items as evidence and build a case to support the stories they uncovered.
A scavenger hunt around the local area encouraged them to think like geographers, observing the landscape, and reflecting on livability of a local area.
An added extra was a visit to Melba’s vintage playroom, where students had fun dressing up and stepping back in time to experience a slice of life from the past. Who knew that Year 7s would love dress ups so much!
It was wonderful to see the curious way our Year 7 students engaged with the stories, people, and places that have shaped our local area.
