Gospel Reading: John 13:31–35 (NRSV Catholic Youth Bible)
When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once .Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
💬 Reflection
In this reading, Jesus knows that He will soon leave His disciples. He wants to give them something important to hold onto—a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you.
Jesus isn’t talking about just being kind when it’s easy. He is asking us to love with patience, sacrifice, forgiveness, and understanding—just like He loves us. This kind of love shows the world that we follow Him. It’s not always easy, but it’s how we share God’s presence with others.
This reading reminds us that being a follower of Jesus is not just about belief—it’s about how we treat people every day. Love is the sign that we belong to Him.
❓ Thought-Provoking Questions
- What does it mean to love others as Jesus loves us—especially when it’s difficult?
- How can I show this kind of love in my daily life, even in small ways?
- Who in my life might need to feel this love more right now, and what can I do about it?
