In Grade 2 we have been learning how to write addition number sentences using words such as “in total” and “altogether”. We created our own number sentences where the answer had to be between 80-100!
Last week our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, a nationwide event that celebrates the joy of reading. Organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), National Simultaneous Storytime sees children across the country enjoy the same picture book at the same time. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the event, highlighting its ongoing impact in promoting literacy and a love of books. The chosen story, written and illustrated by an Australian author, linked to key learning areas in the curriculum. It was a fun and engaging way to build reading confidence and foster a sense of community through storytelling.
On Tuesday, the entire school headed to Duncan McKinnon Reserve for the OLA Athletics Carnival! Despite some rainy weather, the students enthusiastically took part in a wide range of events. Their energy, sportsmanship, and perseverance shone through as they embraced every activity with excitement. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, teamwork, and school spirit!
Preparation and planning for the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is well under way. The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of Mathematics in students’ everyday lives; it is open to students in Grades 3 to 12. The students are given 60 minutes to complete the mathematical assessment.
Students have been invited to participate by the classroom teacher, Mathematics Leader and Principal using assessment data to determine which students might benefit from the opportunity.
If you have not been contacted and would like your child to participate, please contact Nicole Collins on 9584 9488 or collinsn@olacheltenham.catholic.edu.au for more information.

Our Bike Ed program at OLA was a wonderful success, with students developing important cycling skills and road safety awareness over the course of the program. The initiative concluded with the much anticipated Big Bike Ride, where students had the opportunity to put their new skills into practice including riding their bikes safely through the community, on the footpath and the road. A big thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and students who helped make the program such a memorable experience!
