Kindness Launch Day

This term, we will be engaging in a lot of activities related to kindness.

On Tuesday, the 13th of May, it was our kindness launch day, where everyone wore yellow. That day was about showing kindness to each other and learning about our whole school initiative for being kind and our new whole school expectation, along with being safe, responsible and respectful.

Our kindness launch day was to start our new whole school expectation on kindness. It was amazing to many of the students and teachers wearing yellow.

For the rest of this term, teachers will be handing out kindness hearts every week to one student in their classroom who has demonstrated our whole school expectations around the word kind. So your child may come home with one of the hearts and cards that look like the photo above.

These are:

  1. I accept and embrace differences
  2. I speak positively about myself
  3. I am supportive and encouraging of others
  4. I can be kind without a reason
  5. I am friendly, helpful and welcoming to others
  6. I use my manners eg: thank you, please, hold the door open for others
  7. I show gratitude and empathy

We would also like for everyone to be kind every day.

Kindness Ambassadors and Kindness Cards

Class Captains received their  Kindness Ambassador badge last week. The Kindness Ambassadors are helping the teachers in class and are also looking out for students in their class who are being kind and demonstrating kindness to others. At the end of the day, it is the teachers' decision.

The kindness ambassadors will be wearing a badge that looks like this, see below.

Sustainability Leader's News

Last week, the sustainability leaders got together and teamed up with a parent helper, Darlene, and thoroughly weeded our veggie garden. It looks much better now and we are hoping to share our produce soon.

Also, a reminder to put your 10 cent bottles and juice boxes in the collection bags closest to your classroom (see photo below). The money will go toward the year six graduation.

Bread Tags For Wheelchairs. We are also encouraging students to bring in any plastic bread tags to school for recycling. They can be dropped off at the office. The bread tags will then be sent to a recycling company in South Australia where they will be melted to make bowls. The proceeds from the bowls will go towards making wheelchairs to be given to those most in need.

Mrs Kim Taki

Q1.

What do you like most about our lady’s school?I enjoy being part of a passionate, collaborative team. The leadership is approachable, and everyone works together to ensure the best outcomes for our students.

Q2.

What is one thing you would do to improve the school?

One area for growth could be ensuring that student leadership opportunities are embedded across all year levels. While the school offers a wide range of leadership roles, there’s potential to strengthen student engagement by helping all students, especially in the lower years, see themselves as leaders and active contributors to school life.

Q3.

What is your favourite hobby?

In my spare time, I enjoy connecting with others and making the most of the outdoors. Whether it’s sharing a meal with friends, going for a long walk, or setting up camp under the stars, I find joy in simple experiences that bring people together.Q4.Why did you decide to be a teacher?

I became a teacher because of the impact my own teacher had on me when I was seven years old. She saw something in me, believed in me, and made learning feel safe, exciting, and full of possibility. That one relationship changed everything for me—it shaped the way I saw myself and what I thought I could become. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to be that person for someone else: a teacher who makes a lasting difference, who nurtures confidence, and who creates a space where children feel truly supported and inspired to grow.

Q5.How long have you been a teacher for?

I began my teaching journey in 2018 as a kindergarten teacher and have since worked across a range of roles in early childhood education. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to support other educators as an Educational Leader and later took on the role of Assistant Director at an early learning centre. While I valued those experiences, I found myself drawn back to the heart of teaching—being in the classroom with students. This led me to transition into primary education, where I continue to enjoy building strong connections with learners and supporting their growth each day.

Old Melbourne Gaol Year 5 Excursion

The Old Melbourne Gaol was super and wonderful. We learnt all about Ned Kelly and his life. We learnt about Ned Kelly’s grave and about how they actually made decoy graves, so no one steals his body.

We got invited to a courtroom by RMIT university, and we played different roles like Ned Kelly, police officer, 2 lawyers, witnesses, judge's assistant and a judge. After that, the tour guide brought us to the jail, where there was information about the jail displayed, and we got a chance to take notes about it.

When we arrived at the jail, the tour guide told us some stories and then he showed us Ned Kelly’s armour, and  then he let us explore the jail. When he let us explore, we saw where Ned Kelly got hanged, we also saw where Ned Kelly’s cell was. When the tour guide rang the bell he told us that people who were in that jail had to shower every Sunday.
