Term 2, Week 5

Dear Parents and Carers,

Next Monday is our school closure day, where our teachers will engage in professional learning with Brooke Wardana from Shaping Minds. Brooke  was recently awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her exceptional work in education. The focus of the day will be on deepening our understanding of the components of reading and writing. This professional development aligns with our school’s vision for instruction, where every teacher is an expert in explicit, evidence-based teaching practices. As we continue our learning journey, we remain committed to refining our approach to literacy to ensure all students are supported and engaged with their learning.

Our teachers have been working diligently behind the scenes to prepare Semester One reports for all students. This process involves thoughtful reflection on each child’s learning, progress, and achievements across the first half of the year. Teachers dedicate many hours to writing, editing, and proofreading these reports, often outside of school hours to ensure they provide meaningful and personalised insights into your child’s academic growth, work habits, and areas for development. I would like to thank our parents for their ongoing support and partnership in their child’s education, and we look forward to celebrating each student’s progress with you during the upcoming parent-teacher interviews in Week 11.

On Thursday 5th of June at 6:30 parents are invited to attend an Online Language of Friendship parent-child workshop hosted by URSTRONG. URSTRONG’s whole-school friendship strategy has improved the social climate in schools around the world, connecting over a million kids, parents, and teachers with a common language of friendship. We are proud to be a URSTRONG School, empowering your children with friendship skills through the Friendology friendship skills curriculum. During this workshop Tyson Greenwood will teach you and your children skills and language to foster healthy, feel-good friendships. Please check  Compass for details of how to join this online workshop.

All schools across Australia are mandated to collect data for the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). This annual process requires schools to identify students receiving adjustments and support, as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The data collection helps ensure that schools are meeting the individual needs of students and supports the ongoing development of inclusive practices. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or support at school so that all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed. It also informs government planning and funding to better support students with diverse learning needs. Parents and carers are not required to provide any additional information, and the data collected is de-identified to maintain privacy.
