Changes to Mathematics Reporting

Semester 1 student reports will be available on the last day of Term 2. You may notice some changes in the Mathematics section of the report. These updates reflect recent changes made by the Department of Education, and I would like to explain them to help you better understand how your child's progress is being reported:

a) One Progression Point for Mathematics

Previously, your child’s mathematics achievement was reported using three separate progression points:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Measurement and Geometry
  • Statistics and Probability

Starting from Semester 1, 2025, the Department of Education has directed that mathematics will now be reported using a single combined progression point. A progression point shows your child’s achievement against the Victorian Curriculum. Because this is the first time a single progression point is being used, growth lines (which show progress over time) will not appear in this semester’s report. This growth line will return in Semester 2 and continue in future reports.

b) Achievement in Specific Maths Areas via 5-Point Scale

At Wheelers Hill Primary School, we place great importance on accurate, up-to-date assessment to monitor student growth and inform teaching. To provide further insight into your child’s strengths and areas for development, we will show their achievement across different areas of mathematics using a 5-point scale. This information will be displayed beneath the progression points and aims to give you a clearer picture of how your child is performing across the areas of maths learning. The areas of mathematics we will be showing in the scale are:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Space
  • Measurement
  • Statistics
  • Probability (Year 3-6 only)

Reporting for Literacy and other areas of the curriculum will remain unchanged .

We trust that our revised approach to Mathematics reporting that is still aligned with the Department of Education's guidelines, will continue to provide you with detailed and up-to-date information about your child’s learning progress and achievement.

Thank you for your ongoing support in your child’s learning. If you have any questions or would like further information about your child's report once it is available, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

 Prep Enrolment for 2026

Prep enrolment for 2026 is now open. Information, including how to access the digital VicStudents portal to submit your application can be found via the school website:

https://www.wheelershillps.vic.edu.au/enrolments-2

Thank you to the parents who have already indicated via Compass that a sibling will be attending next year. If you haven’t done so yet, please remember that you still need to submit an application through the portal above. As per the Department of Education’s enrolment and placement policy, siblings of current students are guaranteed a Prep place—but an application form is still required to secure the enrolment.

Assemblies – Term 2

Our Friday assemblies will continue to be led by student leaders and held via Webex at 2:00pm.

Join Assembly via Webex

During assembly, we celebrate Student of the Week awards, share sustainability updates, and acknowledge student achievements. Weather permitting, our end-of-term assembly will be held outside on the oval.
