Junior School News

From the Acting Head of Junior School
As raincoats became an essential school item and even some rain boots made their seasonal debut, we experienced one of the wettest weeks of the year. Despite the downpour, our Junior School remained the hive of activity that it always is— teachers and students found creative ways to keep spirits high while staying indoors. From indoor recess games to cozy classroom reading sessions, we’ve embraced the weather and made the most of every soggy day. Please read more about some of our highlights for the week. I hope that all families enjoyed a quiet weekend to recuperate as I am sure the majority of sport over the weekend was cancelled.
HICES Cross Country
Our Junior School students showed incredible determination and school spirit as they braved the chilly conditions in Orange to compete in the HICES Cross Country Carnival. Despite the freezing temperatures, our young athletes gave it their all, tackling the challenging course with grit and enthusiasm. It was a fantastic day of competition, camaraderie, and personal bests, and we are so proud of how our representatives displayed resilience and sportsmanship throughout the event.
A special congratulations to Monroe, Freya, Sonny and Austin, who have made it through to the CIS Championships in June. Thank you to Mrs Maloney and Mrs Loughland for attending with our students and supporting them on the day.
Gardening Club
Our Junior School Gardening Club is blooming with excitement as students dig into the joys of planting, nurturing, and harvesting their own garden creations. Meeting weekly, the club offers hands-on opportunities for children to learn about sustainability, seasonal planting, and the wonders of nature. From sowing seeds to tasting the fruits of their labour, our young gardeners are cultivating not just plants, but also responsibility, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for the environment. Thank you to Mrs Achurch for imparting your horticultural wisdom to our students.
Sewing Club
Our Junior School Sewing Club is stitching up creativity each week as students learn the basics of sewing in a fun and supportive environment. From threading needles to completing their first projects, members develop fine motor skills, patience, and confidence while exploring their artistic side. With each stitch, our young sewers are not only crafting handmade treasures but also building a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work. Thank you to Mrs Sommer for sharing your expertise with our Junior School students.
After School Care
It’s been a fantastic week in our after-school program, packed with excitement, creativity, and energy! We kicked things off with Mad Scientist Mondays, where budding scientists conducted bubbling experiments and explored wild reactions that made science come alive. Tasty Tuesdays had everyone’s taste buds tingling as students rolled up their sleeves in the kitchen, whipping up delicious treats and learning fun food facts along the way.
Midweek momentum kept going with Work-Out Wednesdays, where students got moving with fun fitness games and challenges that had everyone laughing and breaking a sweat. We wrapped up the week with flair on Theatre Thursdays, as our young performers stepped into the spotlight with drama games, improv fun, and mini skits that showed off their creativity and confidence. And due to the weather, the students also enjoyed some rare time on devices, playing maths games and finishing the session with a movie. Each day brings new adventures, and we can’t wait to do it all again next week!
