AUSLAN comes to Foundation

We are so lucky to have Janine, our Auslan teacher, on staff and today we were blessed with a visit from her in our classroom. We had our very first lesson in AUSLAN, the language for the deaf. We learnt how to say thankyou.

Year 1

The Year One's were so excited to go on their first walking excurison last Thursday. We had an amazing time at the Pretson Library listening to stories. We made a snake that everyone was happy to take home.

Year 2/3

Hi Familes,

It has been a wild and windy week. We have been super lucky in our class to have some students from Parade College come across and teach our children some dance moves, art and next week even how to make a fruit salad. The students have been very responsive to Hugh and AJ who are a part of a Community Service Program. Please enjoy the photos below of the cool dance moves they were busting out.

Have a great weekend.

Year 3/4

In Wellbeing, students have been learning about 'Respect for people, respect for Country'. Activities using the book 'Somebody's Land' by Adam Goodes helped students to understand the Aboriginal perspective of how white people came to this land and how this affected the Indigenous people. Students learnt that someone of Indigenous heritage is able to present a Welcome to Country and that a 'Non Indigenous person' can do an Acknowledgement of Country.  Students worked in groups to create their own Acknowledgement of Country.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people, the traditional owners of the land.  We thank you for all the things you did for us. We appreciate you. We pay our respects to the elders past, present and yet to come. We promise to look after the land we live on, the skies and the waterways. We also pay our respect to the mighty Bunjil for creating everything and everyone.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the Kulin Nation.

We are sorry that we didn’t respect you when we took your land.

We will take care of the land, animals and people while we learn and play on this land.

We pay our respects to the Elders of the Wurundjeri people, past, present and emerging.

We Acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, also known as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who were the first people to live on Australian soil.  We pay our respects to the elders pas, present and emerging. Thank you for taking care of the land, animals and people of the Kulin Nation.

We promise to listen and learn from the Indigenous people. We promise to look after the land and people of this country.

Year 4/5

We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 4/5, filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration. The students have been actively engaged in their classroom learning, while also working hard in preparation for our upcoming school musical.

We’ve been busy practising our speaking parts, learning the choreography for our dances, and rehearsing the songs with great energy and enthusiasm. It’s been wonderful to see the students building confidence, supporting one another, and having fun as they bring the performance to life.

We’re so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to share their hard work with you soon!

Year 5/6

Last Wednesday, the Year 5/6s together with their Foundation buddies participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime, where we listened to the story 'The Truck Cat'. Over 2 million Australians were listening at the same time!

'The Truck Cat' is a story about cats and humans, immigration and identity, and homes lost and found. It had us all captivated, from the adventurous journey to the feel-good ending. It was a fun and educational experience, and it was amazing to be part of such a huge, nationwide celebration of books and reading.
